Rain, rain, rain.  That's what we've had a lot of lately.

What good can come of it?

Indoor recess, shotput and discus areas filled with ankle-deep mud, slippery-wet soccer fields, messy paw and footprints all over the house, parental sideline-support that is pushed to its soggy limits, and a huge puddle-lake that has filled half of our backyard.  That is some of what "rain, rain, rain" has amounted to lately in our lives.

It can be difficult to see anything good coming from the heavy clouds and steady showers.

But then I peered out an upstairs window and saw some backyard "neighbors" that I've never encountered on our property before.  Waddling happily among the puddles and fresh daffodils, I realized that their visit was made possible only by the effect of the rain, rain, rain.

These misplaced geese reminded me that even the soggy parts of our lives bring new encounters, new adventures, new people, and new opportunities that would not have been possible unless the rain had come first.

For I am about to do something new.  See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?  I will make a pathway through the wilderness.   ~Isaiah 43:19

~~~
Has the (actual) weather been raining on your parade?  Swamping your afterschool and after work activities?  Canceling your extracurricular hobbies and competitions?  Sidelining your yard plans, gardening-starts and weekend outings?
 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. (25) The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock." ~Matthew 7:24-25
Don't let the weather dampen your spirit. God and His Son are still shining through.
Has there been a downpour on our emotional and mental landscape? So many daily drips and continuous steady "rains" that the culmination has produced a flood of instability within us?
The righteous keep moving forward, and those with clean hands become stronger and stronger.  ~Job 17:9
Don't give up, and don't let the waters pull us under. We have a Lifesaver and His name is Jesus.
~~~~

Have physical torrents of "rain" been pounding us?  Injury, pain, sickness, and chronic health challenges that pound and pound like hurricane rain that won't relent?

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution… (37) No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.  ~Romans 8:35, 37

Stand strong in the storm of physical challenges. The Lord is with us and He strengthens the weary.

Have the underlying yet consistent storms of life worn us down? The drip, drip, drip of lack-of-approval, the reoccurring showers of a wayward child/family member, or the dangling drizzle of a sin that just keeps coming back to haunt and taunt us?
It's not a storm per se, but the "rains" always return (again and again and again), and we are weary from getting waylaid by them.

So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.  ~Galatians 6:9

Persist in persisting for Jesus. He makes a way for us and He will take care of us.

The "rains" of life come, that's no secret. The puddles form in our yards, our minds and our hearts and it's hard to imagine any good coming from the water-logged feeling filling our spirit.

But today, let a couple "geese" wander into your view. "Geese" of hope, "geese" of a-bigger-picture-than-we-are-able-to-see right now. "Geese" that usher in a different perspective to the rain (puddles of opportunity!). "Geese" that possibly provide a smile of relief that there is more to life than the raincloud that seems perched above our head.

For I am about to do something new.  See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?  ~Isaiah 43:19

Try to see it today The soggy parts of our lives bring new encounters, new adventures, new people, and new opportunities that would not have been possible unless the rain had come first.

Sarah
