Many years later, when Moses had grown up, he went out to visit his own people, the Hebrews, and he saw how hard they were forced to work. During his visit, he saw an Egyptian beating one of his fellow Hebrews. (12) After looking in all directions to make sure no one was watching, Moses killed the Egyptian and hid the body in the sand.

(13) The next day, when Moses went out to visit his people again, he saw two Hebrew men fighting. “Why are you beating up your friend?” Moses said to the one who had started the fight.

(14) The man replied, “Who appointed you to be our prince and judge? Are you going to kill me as you killed that Egyptian yesterday?”

Then Moses was afraid, thinking, “Everyone knows what I did.” (15) And sure enough, Pharaoh heard what had happened, and he tried to kill Moses. But Moses fled from Pharaoh and went to live in the land of Midian.  ~Exodus 2:11-15

Isn't that us?

That double-life? That hoped-for double reputation? That double standard and that two-facedness?

We know God's ways...

We read the Bible...

We commune with other Believers...

We know Jesus... We truly love Him.

And yet, time after time, after time, we fall. In an instant, in an impulse, in a reaction...and in sin.

One moment we are in the spirit, we are with Jesus, we are living-well-for-Him, we are representing Him. And the next moment..(just like Moses)...we are not.

We have flown off the handle. We have spouted off. We have reacted. We have exploded. And we have killed someone's feelings, we have wrecked a relationship, we have soiled someone's intimacy with us by crushing their heart/respect/feelings.

Then what?

Then lots of times we look in all directions to make sure no one was watching...and we hide the body in the sand, so to speak (Exodus 2:12). We bury the act, the words, the sin we've committed and we show up the next time like nothing happened.

When Moses got called-on-the-carpet about what he had done, he felt ashamed, he felt convicted and he was afraid. His reputation had been tarnished, and his false front of faith had been exposed.

Isn't that us?

That double-life?

That...living for God one moment and falling so short of honoring Him the next...

That self-deprecation and public judgment too?

The shame of that moment is heavy and I hate myself.  We get afraid, thinking, “Everyone knows what I did.” In that moment we just want to flee and go live in a different land (Exodus 2:14-15).

Just like Moses felt.

But, luckily...mercifully...miraculously...We know God's ways...

We read the Bible...

We commune with other Believers...

We know Jesus... We truly love Him.

And He loves us.

Even though time after time, after time, we fall...time after time after time He restores.

Just like He did for Moses. Moses' story didn't end when he felt ashamed from falling into sin, and our story doesn't end there either.

Our God knows we fall, and yet He has plans for us when we get back up.

"Forty years later, in the desert near Mount Sinai, an angel appeared to Moses in the flame of a burning bush....

(33) “Then the Lord said to him... (34) I have certainly seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their groans and have come down to rescue them. Now go, for I am sending you back to Egypt.’

(35) “So God sent back the same man his people had previously rejected when they demanded, ‘Who made you a ruler and judge over us?’ Through the angel who appeared to him in the burning bush, God sent Moses to be their ruler and savior. (36) And by means of many wonders and miraculous signs, he led them out of Egypt, through the Red Sea, and through the wilderness for forty years.

(38) ...Moses received life-giving words to pass on to us.  ~Acts 7:31, 33-36, 38

If you're like me (and Moses)...living the double-life of knowing God's ways, reading the Bible, communing with other Believers even knowing and loving Jesus, and yet still falling short and still falling to sin in an instant day after day...

Keep getting back up.

Our God knows we fall, and yet He has plans for us when we get back up.

Get back up today. God's got plans for us to carry out.

God sends us back. Us--the same men and women that his people have previously rejected (and for good reason--We are imperfect!).

Even though time after time we fall in a moment...time after time our God restores us.

We just have to be humble enough (and strong enough) to get back up.

Get back up today. Receive His life-giving words to pass on. God's got plans for us to carry out.

Blessings,

Sarah
