Everyone has advice for us--from friends and family to Twitter, Facebook and the news.  But I prefer life hacks from the Lord. I am often derailed by my own thinking, or at the "good counsel" of others, but God's Word never returns void (It is the same with my word.  I send it out, and it always produces fruit.  It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.  ~Isaiah 55:11).

And so today's "Life Hacks" are sponsored by the Lord and Psalm 127:

Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted.  ~Psalm 127:1

Are we building a house?  Buying one?  Renovating?  Just trying to keep our counters clean?

Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted.  ~Psalm 127:1

Unless He builds it...the foundation of whatever is being built in our lives needs to be Jesus.  The roots and the groundwork need to be secure and steeped in Him, or the work of the builders is wasted.

Let's be done with building things that are a waste of our work, time, energy and resources.

Today, let the Lord build our house, marriage, family, business, dreams, realities...and our eternity. Otherwise, we are wasting our work.

Unless the Lord protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good.

We're fighting so many battles today, wouldn't you agree? I feel this verse calling us to reexamine what we are fighting-to-protect to make sure that the Lord "protects" it first. What is our "cause"? What are we up on our soapbox speaking/campaigning/rallying around? What is captivating our attention, thoughts and feeds?

Is the Lord protecting the city we are "guarding"? Is it His agenda or ours?

I am honest enough to admit that the lines get blurry for me sometimes when I am passionate about something, but God's Word reminds us that whatever it is that we are "protecting"...guarding it with sentries will do no good if it is "a city" that the Lord is not protecting.

What is God for? Only if He is protecting that city should we be guarding it too.

(2) It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones.

In a similar train-of-thought (to figuring-out if God is "protecting our city", or if we have declared ourselves the sentinels of a cause), God is driving a dart of spiritual-discipline into our busy little hearts with verse 2: It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night...for God gives rest to his loved ones.

Anybody else working so hard from early morning until late at night? I know you are. And God knows we are too. Hence this verse that He lays before us today. If He is our priority, then he will give us rest...and perspective.

This life-hack from the Lord tells us to stop (it's useless). Working so hard from early morning until late at night not what our Heavenly Father wants our lives to be about. Life in Him brings perspective and rest from Him: for God gives rest to his loved ones.

And we can relax in all that we are working so hard at, because we ARE his loved ones. Trust Him in this--He'll give us rest.

We'll never receive more use-full advice than the life hacks that come to us from the Lord's Word.

Rest today.

Let's take a break and make a separation from anything we've been building that is not of the Lord. Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted.  ~Psalm 127:1

Receive God's rest today: through His Word, through His love and through His life hacks. Stop working so hard at those things. It is useless, saith the Lord.

May we find a "house" that the Lord is building today, and make ourselves useFULL.

Blessings,

Sarah
