Just do it.

Nike might be famous for that slogan, but the Holy Spirit has the patent on the notion.

In fact, the purpose of the Holy Spirit is to encourage, enable, empower and sponsor us to move from our current space/activity/thinking into what God has next for us.  God gives the Holy Spirit the go-ahead and the Holy Spirit gives us a nudge.  Then our job is to just do it.

...these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit.  The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. (11) For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.  ~I Corinthians 2:10-11

No--none of us knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God...but, if his Spirit reveals a thought or feeling to us today, then just do it---Whatever the "it" is that crosses your heart or mind.

The presence of the Holy Spirit within us and in our lives as believers is all part of God's grand plan for His children.  Remember that God is a three-in-one deal, and "They" have worked it all out for us:

Jesus said, And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. (17) He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.   ~John 14:15

If we know and love Jesus, the Holy Spirit is in us, and He is leading us.  We know him because he lives with us and He leads our thoughts, our ideas, and our outreaches to others.  So don't wait, just do it.

But, we might be asking..."Just do what?"  How will we know when it's time to "just do it" (whatever "it" is)?

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.  ~Acts 1:8

There is a power when the Holy Spirit comes "on" us, but often we may not even be aware of it at the time.  We only know that so-and-so sprang to mind, or that we had a notion to write that person a note of encouragement, or that we felt it necessary to do that  for someone today.  A (Holy Spirit) nudge crosses our heart or mind, and so we just do it.

And once-in-a-while (in God's time) we are blessed to understand or glimpse the "why" of the "power" that we received.

Like today.

As I read the Bible, a lady I've never met came to my mind.  I know of her and her story through a group one of our kids is in.  She lost her son to suicide years ago and she began an outreach organization to prevent suicide.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you...   ~Acts 1:8

I would not have called it "power", but from the "nudge", I wrote her out a card of encouragement this morning, for the organization she began, the life-saving effects it has had, and for the leadership and growth that my son has experienced in being a part of this group.  I thanked her for saving and enriching lives.  I meant it.

A couple hours later, after the envelope had been sealed and I looked up the organization address online, I realized that today would have been her son's birthday.

There was a reason she was on my mind today.  There was a reason I had been praying for her earlier.

I couldn't have known that she might need some love/encouragement/hope today, but God knew.  There was a power at work that I couldn't not have "known", but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you (Acts 1:8), and then it's our job to just do it.

In "just doing" what the Holy Spirit nudges us to do, perhaps we can be witnesses.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.  ~Acts 1:8

We can be witnesses for Him.  Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria means local, national and world-wide.  and the Holy Spirit leads us in what we should do and where.  Whether the "it" is reaching out to someone right in our homes or to someone we have not ever met.  Just do it when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses.

And let's be clear: we don't have power (But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you...), but in acting under the influence of the Holy Spirit's nudge to "just do it"...there is power.  God's power and we were His witnesses

So just do it, whatever "it" is.

But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.  ~John 14:26

The purpose of the Holy Spirit is to encourage, enable, empower and sponsor us to move from our current space/activity/thinking into what God has next for us.  And the Holy Spirit dwells in us: Don’t you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in your midst? (I Corinthians 3:16)

Today, let's be attuned to the "nudges" that might come to us from the Holy Spirit and then it's our job to just do it.

Nike might be famous for that slogan, but the Holy Spirit has the patent on the notion.
