Today is a good day to take Jesus at His word, especially in reference to what He says about His Word.
~~~~~
It's hard to make sense of all that happened to Jesus during the crucifixion, His time in the tomb, and then what "happened" to make it possible for the tomb to be empty on Easter morning and for Him to appear to people...after He had risen from the dead.
It's very hard to make sense of that.
Many would say that it is hard to make sense of the Bible: the verses, the examples from a different time and age...
It's hard to make sense of a Savior Who would leave His post on high to come to earth to die a terrible death...out of love for us and to pay for our sin.
It's very hard to make sense of all of that, no matter how many times you hear the stories.
...unless we had help in understanding.
Unless Someone opened our minds to understand the Scriptures.
Someone did.
And someone does.
When Jesus appeared to the disciples after His resurrection, they stood there in disbelief, filled with joy and wonder (Luke 24:41).
But Jesus went on to remind them (and us!) that everything He had told them (before He died) when He was with them (and everything that we read in the Bible) was proved true by what happened to Jesus, and by His reappearing to them after He defeated death. “When I was with you before, I told you that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and in the Psalms must be fulfilled.” (Luke 24:44).
But even being told (by Jesus) that the Scriptures are true and must be fulfilled... it is still hard to make sense of them.
But Jesus knew that too, and so He did what only He could do:
Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. (46) And he said, “Yes, it was written long ago that the Messiah would suffer and die and rise from the dead on the third day. (47) It was also written that this message would be proclaimed in the authority of his name to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem: ‘There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent.’ (48) You are witnesses of all these things.
(49) “And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised...” ~Luke 24:45-49It is hard to make sense of the Old and New Testaments and a Savior who offers forgiveness of sins for all who repent (Luke 24:47).
...unless we had help in understanding.
Unless Someone opened our minds to understand the Scriptures.
Someone did.
And someone does.
