One of our children has been away at church camp this week.  Allll weeeeek.  And while I pray and know that he is experiencing big fun and big growth in God, this mother's heart still aches for him by the hour.

Who's watching over him?  No one knows his habits, preferences, and insecurities like me.  He's so far away and out of my "reach"...

Are we missing anyone today?  Is someone we love out of reach in relationship, geography, or even separated from you by death?

Allow Psalm 139 to comfort and remind us of God's thorough, all-encompassing, unaffected-by-location, deep love and knowledge for us and for all of His children today.

We (pridefully and errantly) deceive ourselves in thinking that "no one could love them like we do", but there is One who does, and the Lord is always actively loving His children and present with them, even if we are not.

Cherish Psalm 139 today as a picture of God's love, not only for us, but as His promise and declaration for those we love.

Almighty Lord, You know everything about those we care for because You care for them even more.  You know their thoughts.  You see them when they travel and when they rest at home.  You know everything they do, and Your love for them surpasses ours.

Psalm 139

(1)  Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me.

(2) You know when I sit down or stand up.  You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.

(3) You see me when I travel and when I rest at home.  You know everything I do.  ~Psalm 139:1-3

All-Knowing Father, You know what our loved ones need to say even before they say it, and You go before our them and even follow behind them.  You bless them, and we are blessed by the realization of Your all-encompassing love for them.  It's really too great for us to understand.  Thank You.

(4) You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord.

(5) You go before me and follow me.  You place your hand of blessing on my head.

(6) Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand!  ~Psalm 139:4-6

Omnipresent and Omniscient Father, there is no where our loved ones can go that You are not present there with them.  Thank You.  Pursuing You or prodigal-pathed...you are there and Your strength will support them.  Even when they (and we) try to hide--nothing separates or hides us and our loved ones from You, and we are grateful.

(7) I can never escape from your Spirit!  I can never get away from your presence!

(8) If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there.

(9) If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans,

(10) even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me.

(11) I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night—

(12) but even in darkness I cannot hide from you.  To you the night shines as bright as day.  Darkness and light are the same to you.  ~Psalm 139:7-12

We know and we love, but you know and love more intimately and fully because you created and knit us together.  You will care for those we care for because you made them fearfully and wonderfully and Your works are wonderful.  We can trust You and trust our loved ones to You because You loved them first and saw them before they were even born.

(13) For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

(14) I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

(15) My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.

(16) You saw me before I was born.  Every day of my life was recorded in your book.  Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.  ~Psalm 139:13-16

Lord, we lift our loved ones up to you and release them to your care today.  Our thoughts of them are many, but your thoughts about them are precious and cannot be numbered.  Loving Father, we worry about those close to us but only because we cannot fathom that your thoughts for them outnumber the grains of sand.  Your love exceeds our finite understanding and even in that ignorance: we praise You!  You are always with us and those we love.

(17) How precious are your thoughts about me, O God.  They cannot be numbered!

(18) I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand!  And when I wake up, you are still with me!  ~Psalm 139:17-18

Thank You for waking us up to the realization that You are with those we love and you are still with us.

Who's watching over them?  You.
Who knows their habits, preferences, and insecurities better than us?  Only You.
None of Your children are ever far away or out of Your "reach"...even if they are out of ours.

Are we missing anyone today?  Is someone we love out of reach?

Cherish Psalm 139 today as a picture of God's love, not only for us, but as His promise and declaration for those we love.

Blessings,

sarah
