Does anyone need a word of protection spoken over them today?

Perhaps we do, and we know it: We know what is on the docket today or this week (for us or a loved one), and we need (emotional, spiritual, mental) protection.  Depending on the situation and the rigors required, we may even need physical protection.

Yes, we need a word of protection spoken over us today.

Or perhaps we do need a word of protection spoken over us (or a loved one) today, and we don't know it.  We're sitting/kneeling/pausing before God right now, but we have no idea what (evil, violent, trouble, wickedness) is coming around the bend toward us today.

Whether we know it or not--Yes, we could use a word of protection spoken over us, and our good/all-knowing/all-powerful/merciful Father in Heaven speaks a word of protection over us today through Psalm 140.

(1) Lord, rescue me from evil people.  Protect me from those who are violent,  (2) those who plot evil in their hearts and stir up trouble all day long.  ~Psalm 140:1-2

Heavenly Father, You alone know all that we (and our loved ones) will face when we finish reading Your Word today.  We may know (and even be fearing) the evil that we will encounter today, or in Your wisdom and foresight, your Word may be proactively pitching a tent of protection over us.  Thank You for Your foresight/foreknowledge/and dominion over anything evil that approaches us today.  Lord, rescue us and those we love from evil people.  Protect us today from those who are violent, those who plot evil in their hearts and stir up trouble all day long (Psalm 140:1-2).  Amen.

(3) Their tongues sting like a snake; the venom of a viper drips from their lips.

(4) Lord, keep me out of the hands of the wicked.   Protect me from those who are violent, for they are plotting against me.  (5) The proud have set a trap to catch me; they have stretched out a net; they have placed traps all along the way.  ~Psalm 140:3-4

Their tongues do sting like a snake.  At work, at school, at try-outs, in line, on the side-line, out to eat, on the news, or reading the words of the wicked---Their tongues sting like a snake; the venom of a viper drips from their lips (Psalm 140:3).

God knows the sting of their words and the isolation that we experience in standing (often alone) for Him.  The "crowd" is not usually "Christian", and there is often a loneliness in living for the Light-of-the-world in today's world.  But keep shining for Him today:  He protects His people.

Who knows better than Jesus about the emotional and physical sting of their tongues and the pain that the violent are capable of?

Lord, keep us and our loved ones out of the hands of the wicked.   Protect us from those who are violent, for they are plotting against usLord you see our pride: remove it.  And if others have set a trap (in pride) to catch us today---protect and  rescue us.  Amen.

Yes, we need a word of protection spoken over us today, and (6) I said to the Lord, “You are my God!”  Listen, O Lord, to my cries for mercy!  (7) O  Sovereign Lord, the strong one who rescued me, you protected me on the day of battle (Psalm 140:7).

Lord, You alone know the battles we will encounter today: protect us and our loved ones.  Don't let evil people have their way.  Amen.

We don't need to be afraid to ask for God's protection and pro-action against evil people today...and beyond that, Psalm 140 even coins a few requests that we might have been afraid to ask for, but the Psalmist has put the requests in for us.  It is okay to pray for God's justice.

Lord, do not let evil people have their way.  Do not let their evil schemes succeed, or they will become proud.  (9) Let my enemies be destroyed by the very evil they have planned for me.  (10) Let burning coals fall down on their heads.  Let them be thrown into the fire or into watery pits from which they can’t escape.  (11) Don’t let liars prosper here in our land.  Cause great disasters to fall on the violent.  ~Psalm 140:8-11

Do we (or our loved ones) need a word of protection spoken over us today?  Yes.  And our Father, in His infinite, omniscient love, poetically pulls His all-powerful cover of protection up and over us (and those we pray for) today.  We can ask Him for help and we can know that He will provide it.

(12) But I know the Lord will help those they persecute; he will give justice to the poor.  (13) Surely righteous people are praising your name; the godly will live in your presence.  ~Psalm 140:12-13

Lord, our greatest desire is to live in Your presence today.  If we are with You, then it matters not who or what comes against us, because Your Word promises protection.   "They"...will...persecute, but I know the Lord will help those they persecute.

We needed a word of protection spoken over us today, and You have provided it.  Surely righteous people (us!) are praising your name.  Amen.
