What are your hobbies?  Talents?  Sports you like?  Clubs/groups that you belong to?  Pastimes you enjoy?

What we do and what we enjoy spending our time engaged in are good things.  And--if we enjoy not being plugged into too many things, that is a healthy option too!

But whether we go, go, go or if we tend towards being a home-body...what we do or don't do doesn't define who we are.  And we should NEVER forget who we truly are.

We ARE NOT the job-we-do, the teams-we-associate-with, the name/town/family we come from/ the groups we hang with/or the activities/degrees/accomplishments that we list on a resume or application.

We are children of God.

And if you are not so sure of that, or you think God might not want you as one of His children…think again.  Listen to what God says about ANYONE who comes to Him or wants to know more about Him:

But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. ~John 1:12

Read the verse again.  It doesn’t say that God ONLY gave the right to be His children to the highest-degreed people/the most popular people/the goody-goody people/the wealthy people/the good-upbringing people/or the "church" people.  God welcomes everyone, and God wants everyone to be His child.

Check back to the verse: "to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God." (John 1:12).

Believe Him!  Accept Him!  That’s all He asks in order for us to be called His children.  (I can handle that, and so can you.)

For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. ~Galatians 3:36

See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him. (2) Dear friends, we are already God’s children… ~I John 3:1-2

OWN it today, (Dear friends) we are already God’s children

Don't make it hard.  God doesn’t.  😊

(We KNOW this one!)  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. ~John 3:16

Again–”WHOEVER.  I’m pretty sure that’s all of us, and I’m also pretty sure that when God says everybody/whoeverHe MEANS everybody!  He means us.

We are much more than just what we do or are involved in: When we believe in God, He adopts us. We become God’s children.

So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children.  Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” (16) For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. (17) And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. ~Romans 8:15-17

The Bible reminds (and instructs!) us that we received God’s Spirit when he adopted (us) as his own children, and from then on, we are His. We are heirs of God’s glory.

Now that's a title that we want to define us, far more than any other earthly title/affiliation/group that we could belong-to or be associated with.

Knowing God and accepting Him into our hearts defines who we are…no matter WHAT else we do or don’t do.  If we can understand and accept that God loves us and that He has good plans for us as His children, then it changes the way we view ourselves and the way that we will view everything that will happen to us in our lifetime.

Dear Heavenly Father, we haven’t done anything to earn the privilege of being called Your children, but we are thankful that You give us the opportunity.  May we take the steps to draw nearer to You today, and to believe and accept You today, Lord.  Whether we are involved in many things or none–we are defined by You first.  Thank you for calling us Your kids.  Amen.

Blessings,

sarah
