Sometimes we complicate it. Sometimes the world, the church, our expectations and our ideals complicate our mission.
But today, God's Word reminds us to simplify.
Our mission, as Believers in Jesus is very simple. It is not detailed, doing it should not be exhausting, and is not reserved for only-the-elite (in degree/faith/age/status/etc.) to share the Good News.
(3) The Good News is about his Son... (4) ...He is Jesus Christ our Lord. (5) Through Christ, God has given us the privilege and authority as apostles to tell Gentiles everywhere what God has done for them, so that they will believe and obey him, bringing glory to his name.
(6) And you are included among those Gentiles who have been called to belong to Jesus Christ. (7) I am writing to all of you in Rome who are loved by God and are called to be his own holy people.
May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace. ~Romans 1:3-7
Paul wrote these simple, clarifying, liberating words about how to share God's message with others.
Paul had been through the wringer for his faith in God, but his Biblical writings never show it. Paul was beaten for his faith in God, but he never seemed beaten-down. His focus and understanding of his mission and how to complete it each day were crystal-clear to him, and he simply lived (and lived simply) to bring glory to God's name each day.
That's the goal and the point of our lives in Christ.
We sometimes get foggy. We sometimes make-serving-God-foggy, or complicated, or exhausting. But that is not God's idea or intention.
It's really very simple. May Paul's words clarify and simplify our faith-walk today:
(3) The Good News is about his Son... (4) ...He is Jesus Christ our Lord. ~Romans 1:3
God's Son is Jesus, and He is our Lord. He is in dominion and provision (He is...our Lord) over our lives, our days and even our thoughts. The Good News is that if we know and love Him, then God has given us the privilege and authority as apostles to tell Gentiles everywhere what God has done for them (Romans 1:5).
This is our calling in life: To share (tell) what God has done. The Lord has given us (not only) the privilege of doing this, but also the authority to share His story (The Good News).
And today, God is reminding me (and perhaps you also), to simplify in how we share his Good News.
Through Christ, God has given us the privilege and authority as apostles to tell Gentiles everywhere what God has done for them... ~Romans 1:5
We are simply to tell. Not with fancy lighting and smoke from the stage, or with perfect-powerpoint presentations and elaborate snacks or homes. Just tell people everywhere what God has done for them... (Romans 1:5).
We can handle that. Let's stop over-complicating and over-detailing that.
And the amazing thing about God's Word and His salvation for us is that every aspect and stage of faith is also for us to share with others. And why? Well--keep reading:
so that they will believe and obey him, bringing glory to his name. ~Romans 1:5
That's it. It's that simple. That's our assignment today and everyday for the rest of our lives: That we would believe and obey him, bringing glory to his name (Romans 1:5).
And that's it. It's that simple in terms of defining our assignment today and everyday for the rest of our lives in relation to why it is imperative that we share the hope of Jesus with others. So that they might believe and obey him, bringing glory to his name (Romans 1:5).
Keep it simple today: believe and obey him, bringing glory to his name (Romans 1:5).
Today, share (simply) your story of coming-to-faith and how God-has-worked-in-your-life with someone so that they might believe and obey him, bringing glory to his name (Romans 1:5).
That's it. It's that simple. We can handle that. Let's stop over-complicating and over-detailing that.
And for those of us who are having an argument with ourselves and our God about not-being-worthy to talk to others about Him, or to be included among those who have been called...Well--keep reading:
And you are included among those Gentiles who have been called to belong to Jesus Christ. (7) I am writing to all of you in Rome who are loved by God and are called to be his own holy people.
May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace. ~Romans 1:6-7
That means us. That means you. That means me. That means everyone. And May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give us grace and peace in knowing that.
We are included among those...who have been called to belong to Jesus Christ. We are loved by God and are called to be his own holy people (Romans 1:6-7).
That's it. It's that simple. Stop over-complicating and over-detailing that.
Our mission today, as Believers in Jesus is very simple. It is not detailed, doing it should not be exhausting, and is not reserved for only-the-elite (in degree/faith/age/status/etc.) to share the Good News.
Today, may we simply live and live simply to bring glory to God's name.
Blessings,
sarah
