"Let go and let God."

People say that, but what does it mean?

I'm sure I don't know.  Or didn't...because the truth is, we hold onto some things in life so tightly that it would be a complete fallacy for us to quip "Let go and let God" about them...even though we love and trust Him.

We pretend to know (and live!) what "Let go and let God" means, but God knows that we are not "letting him" in certain areas.

So, God does what He does best, and He starts working on us, unraveling us.  (He loves us too much to leave us where we are at.  He is always providing opportunities for us to become more like Him and less like us.)  He must become greater; I must become less.  ~John 3:30

God starts stripping away our pride and (self-imposed) stress by unraveling us like a mummy coming undone from ancient wrappings.

Bit by bit, God unravels us so that we might revel in Him alone, instead of our mirages of perfection/ unrealistic expectations/and unattainable standards.

Bit by bit...unraveled here and there:

  • Scripture verses here--that strike our heart.  Unravel our tightly-wound expectations of ourselves and others, Lord.  Amen.
    • We are privileged, and have His authority to share about Jesus, but Scripture provides us with proof that serving Him should not be complicated/stressful/life-snuffing but rather--grace-filled and peaceful.
    • Through Christ, God has given us the privilege and authority as apostles to tell Gentiles everywhere what God has done for them, so that they will believe and obey him, bringing glory to his name.  (6) And you are included among those...who have been called to belong to Jesus Christ. (7) I am writing to all of you...who are loved by God and are called to be his own holy people.  May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.  ~Romans 1:5-7

  • Comments there--from my kids that evidence pushing them too hard in life and ministry.  Unravel our tightly-wound and unattainable standards, Father.  Amen.
    • Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not turn from it.  ~Proverbs 22:6
    • Instead I was more along the lines of...“...do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord"  (Ephesians 6:4).
  • Unhealthy stress-levels and reactions here--that do not characterize a "wife of noble character" (Proverbs 31:10).  Unravel any part of my attitude/tone/thinking that does not reflect You, my Lord.  Amen.
    • A quarrelsome wife is like the dripping of a leaky roof in a rainstorm; (16) restraining her is like restraining the wind or grasping oil with the hand.  ~Proverbs 27:15-16
    • Better to live in a desert than with a quarrelsome and ill-tempered wife.  ~Proverbs 21:19
Instead and in Christ...Her husband can trust her, and she will greatly enrich his life.  (12) She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life (Proverbs 31:11-12).

Bit by bit God unravels us to "Let go and let Him".

And when we do...when we submit to God's will and His ways, then He does the work instead of us.  In fact, serving Him is no longer work, but a privilege: God has given us the privilege and authority as apostles to tell Gentiles everywhere what God has done for them, so that they will believe and obey him, bringing glory to his name (Romans 1:5).

This is the goal.  This is the purpose of our lives.

So, let go and let God.  Give Him the reins, the stress, the expectations, and the ideals.  Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.  ~I Peter 5:7

So, let go and let God. Relent on vehement-control.  There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death.  ~Proverbs 14:12

So, let go and let God.  Let Him undress our stress.  In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul.  ~Psalm 94:19

If God is unraveling us today, let go and let Him.

Blessings,

sarah
