Are we planting seeds for God's Kingdom today?  (Loving on someone that needs it/Praying with or for another/Sharing or teaching the Bible to someone/others).

Are we watering the seeds of faith that someone else planted before us?  Maybe meeting with someone to disciple them or invest in them?   Perhaps walking alongside someone who is in a valley of life and needs support.

The planting of God's seed and the watering of God's seed...is important work, but who does it is not important.  What’s important is that God makes the seed grow.  ~I Corinthians 3:7

Am I planting seeds for Christ today?  (I should be.)
Are you watering seeds for the Lord today?  (I hope so.)
Is Apollos watering?  Is Paul planting?  They were (in their Biblical day), but you and me and Apollos and Paul don't matter: only God does!

After all, who is Apollos? Who is Paul? We are only God’s servants through whom you believed the Good News. Each of us did the work the Lord gave us. (6) I planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow. (7) It’s not important who does the planting, or who does the watering. What’s important is that God makes the seed grow. (8) The one who plants and the one who waters work together with the same purpose. And both will be rewarded for their own hard work. (9) For we are both God’s workers. And you are God’s field. You are God’s building.   ~I Corinthians 3:5-9

It's such a good reminder for us on so many levels.

On one level--Plant!  Please, let's be bold in planting God's word and Truth into others and into our world.  How else will God's seeds be spread if there are not followers-of-Christ planting seeds in the furrows of people's souls?  Plant today!

On another level--Water!  Encourage one another in Christ.  Support the ministry, the church, the new Believer.  Volunteer, serve, pray and show up in people's lives.  We "water" by being present to those who are considering/seeking/evaluating God and His Word.  Lord, show us the seeds that we can water for You today.

On another level--sit down and be humble.   It’s not important who does the planting, or who does the watering. What’s important is that God makes the seed grow.  ~I Corinthians 3:7
Why do we get sinfully caught-up in the pride of planting for Jesus?  Why do we get tangled-up in the glory that belongs only to God?  Forgive us, Father, for owning-the-process or bragging about the seeds/the steps/or the harvest.  All of that glory is Yours alone, Father.  I'm so sorry for stepping in front of You.  It's only You that makes any and every seed grow.  Only You and always You.

(18) Stop deceiving yourselves. If you think you are wise by this world’s standards, you need to become a fool to be truly wise. (19) For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. As the Scriptures say, “He traps the wise in the snare of their own cleverness.”  I Corinthians 3:18-19

Forgive us for the times when we have deceived ourselves, Father.

And on another level...don't we realize that we are all in this together?  Our goal as followers-of-Christ is all the same: to glorify God and harvest His Believers.  Planting seeds for other's souls, watering those seeds for Eternal growth...and then being blessed (and wise enough) to step back and watch God work.

(16) Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you? (17) God will destroy anyone who destroys this temple. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple...

(21) So don’t boast about following a particular human leader. For everything belongs to you— (22) whether Paul or Apollos or Peter, or the world, or life and death, or the present and the future. Everything belongs to you, (23) and you belong to Christ, and Christ belongs to God.  ~I Corinthians 3:16-17, 21-23

On a final level...

Keep planting seeds of the Holy Spirit today

Keep watering the seeds of those who have planted before us in God's Name.

Keep out of God's way as He makes the seed grow (as only He can).

It’s not important who does the planting, or who does the watering. What’s important is that God makes the seed grow. (8) The one who plants and the one who waters work together with the same purpose....  (16) Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you?   ~I Corinthians 3:7-8, 16

On every level: Amen.

Blessings,

sarah
