Corona Devo 1177
Sometimes we get treated to something great that we do not even deserve. It happened for me and my family the other day.
Not because we earned it, not because we had the extra money for it, and not because there was a special occasion....but in the name of family--my husband treated us to a gourmet buffet for supper.
Dee-lish-US! It was delicious.
There was something for everyone and everyone had different favorites. And you could eat as much as you wanted of whatever you wanted. For me, that looked like a lot of al dente steamed fresh asparagus, cauliflower au gratin, vegetable low mein and prime rib that melted in my mouth. For one of our sons, it looked like crawfish, three kinds of pizza, General Tso's chicken and hot wings. Our daughter ate her weight in baked beans, and made her own pasta dish with a pesto Alfredo sauce.
If you wanted it--it was there. What a great night! Such bounty! Such blessing.
I couldn't help but praise the Lord...and also see the parallel between this delicious buffet that we got to indulge in, and the life and love and blessings that God has for us, His children: as we do our best to live for Him here on earth and then when we eventually get to join Him in Heaven one day.
That buffet wasn't just my husband splurging on us: it was a treat from our Heavenly Father too. He delights to delight us.
(1) If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. (2) All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God: (3) You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country...
(8) The Lord will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to. The Lord your God will bless you in the land he is giving you.
(9) The Lord will establish you as his holy people, as he promised you on oath, if you keep the commands of the Lord your God and walk in obedience to him.
(12) The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none.
(13) The Lord will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the Lord your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom. (14) Do not turn aside from any of the commands I give you today, to the right or to the left, following other gods and serving them. ~Deuteronomy 28:1-3, 8-9, 12-14
Life is certainly not always easy, but it is inaccurate and irreverent for us not to acknowledge the bounty and blessings that our generous Father lavishes on us.
The good stuff is all afforded to us from Him.
How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you, that you bestow in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in you. ~Psalm 31:19
Not because we deserve it, not because we have the extra money for it, and not because there's a special occasion....but out of His great love for us: God spoils us, in the name of family: His family.
So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.” ~Luke 11:13
Again, we deserved not-one of the delicious items on the grand buffet the other night, but we got to enjoy all of it in the name of love, as my husband treated his family.
God's grace for us is the exact same idea. God's love for us is the exact same idea. God's bounty for us is the exact same idea.
- The one who pursues righteousness and love finds life, bounty, and honor. ~Proverbs 21:21
- I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. ~Psalm 27:13
