I hope we have happy memories of our father today.
Wetting a line with him next us: standing in silence, but years and even generations of fishermen speaking through each of our casts.
An arm around our shoulder, a solid word of advice, an example set through years of repetition or just that look of fatherly pride in his eyes.
I hope we have happy memories of our father today.
We all have happy memories of good men. ~Proverbs 10:7
We praise You, Lord, for the good men and fathers that we have in our lives. Amen.

How to be a good dad? It's hard to have any idea when they first hand you a tiny infant swaddled in a hospital blanket.
But the best father's find instruction from their Heavenly Father, and they put it into practice-not just as they raise children, but as they seek to build their lives on God's foundation daily.
Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. ~Matthew 7:24
We praise You, Lord, for wise men and fathers in our lives who put Your words into practice. Amen.

Sometimes we think the best dad is a wealthy one. Sometimes we think the best dad is a supportive one. Sometimes we feel that the best father is educated, handy, or influential.
But to the good man, God gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy.
We praise You, Lord, for good men and dads in our lives who share wisdom, knowledge, and joy with us. Amen.
God giveth to a man that is good in His sight wisdom, knowledge, and joy. ~Ecclesiastes 2:26

What kind of inheritance will we receive from our father? Hoping for a big house, a fat bank account or the family jewels?
God does those who follow Him one better than any of that, and much better than all of that.
How about eternity in the Kingdom of Heaven? What about the promise of never not being in His presence? And what if the inheritance that we will receive from our Dad in Heaven includes protection over our children?
We praise You, Lord, for writing-us-into Your eternal will the moment we accepted You into our hearts. Amen.
Turn from evil and do good, and you will live in the house of the Lord forever. (28) For the Lord loves justice, and he will never abandon the godly. He will keep them safe forever, but the children of the wicked will die. (29) The godly will possess the land forever. ~Psalm 37:27-29

When Nehemiah was involved in the intimidating and holy task of restoring the Lord's Temple in Jerusalem, which had been run into ruin...he was intentional and specific on assigning supervisors for the storerooms. He chose Shelemiah the priest, Zadok the scribe...Pedaiah, one of the Levites, and Hanan son of Zaccur...as their assistant (Nehemiah 13:13).
Why (does the Bible say) did Nehemiah choose these men to oversee the storerooms (the treasure rooms, the gifts rooms, the tithes-of-the-people rooms)?
What kind of men would we choose to oversee such valuable storerooms?
These men had an excellent reputation, and it was their job to make honest distributions to their fellow Levites. ~Nehemiah 13:13
When we read these names, and then how Nehemiah described these men, may it lead us into prayer for the men in our lives. Our husbands, our dads, our sons: may they be so filled with the Lord and His laws that they have an excellent reputation. And may they be so known and trusted for their integrity that it might be their job to make honest distributions to their fellow citizens, family members and brothers and sisters in Christ.
Do we know and have men in our lives that have an excellent reputation? I hope that we can call them "Dad" or "Dad to our children".
We praise You, Lord, for specific names and people who come to mind that have impacted us with their excellent reputation. Amen.

There's no "father's manual" or "guidebook for good dads", but there is a shining example for men to follow. A perfect prototype and timeless divine-diagram for us to spend our lives seeking to emulate.
The Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him. ~Psalm 103:13
We praise You, Lord, for YOU. We are thankful for our father's today, and we are grateful for Your deep love (shown through Your mercy, salvation and boundaries for us). You ARE our daily guide and example of love and fatherhood. Amen.
Blessings, sarah
