Here's the thing...sometimes we can't help but lose sight of who's in charge.
We read the news, glance the headlines, mourn the obituaries...
We get blindsided by the diagnosis or depressed by the days...
The motion, monotony and minutiae of the day-to-day can suck the life and hope out of us...
Reality (what is real) can become skewed in our lives...and in our hearts and minds.
A cloud of gloom settles in...and we are distressed.
If we have lost sight of who's in charge...allow the Bible to refresh us. Encourage us. Revive us, and re-engage us today!
~~~
A long, long time ago (over 2,000 years for you and me, and 700 years before Jesus was born), the prophet Isaiah spoke of a baby that was to be born.
Because of this baby, who would grow up into a man, who would be (to all who seek Him) our Wonderful Counselor...there will be (can be, should be!) no more gloom for those who were in distress (Isaiah 9:1)
Because of this child being born...The people walking in darkness have seen (can see, are-invited-to-see) a great light (Isaiah 9:2).
Because of this son being given...we have an overseer, a protector, a provider and an Everlasting Father (Isaiah 9:6).
Because of this child...we needn't fear unrest, be anxious today, or worry about tomorrow: He is our Prince of Peace.
Because of this son being given (by His Father)...we have light even on our dark days. On those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned. (Isaiah 9:2).
~~~
Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress... (2) The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.
(3) You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest, as warriors rejoice when dividing the plunder.
(4) For as in the day of Midian’s defeat, you have shattered the yoke that burdens them, the bar across their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor. (5) Every warrior’s boot used in battle and every garment rolled in blood will be destined for burning, will be fuel for the fire. ~Isaiah 9:1-5
Would it change our mood today to know that God shatters the yoke(s) that burden us?
Could our outlook be altered (positively) in acknowledging that when we know the Lord, He shatters the "bar" across our shoulders and the rod of our oppressors?
He does!
The battles we wage trying to follow God's Word...the fights we fight seeking to honor Him...the persecution we endure just trying to live for Him--would it help us to know that Every warrior’s boot used in battle and every garment rolled in blood will be destined for burning, will be fuel for the fire?
We have not lost the battle, but instead--we will have victory!
Law, government, education, values, culture--sometimes we can't help but lose sight of who's in charge.
But there is One who is in ultimate control. How can we know? Where should we look? What will we call Him?
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (7) Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this. ~Isaiah 9:6-7
If we are feeling hopeless, then we have forgotten the prophecy and hope of Isaiah's words as he described the coming of Jesus. It was foretold-hope for people then, but it is proven hope for us today.
We have a Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
If we have accidentally/culturally/apathetically/unknowingly---lost sight of who's in charge, remember Who reigns today and Who will accomplish this today. (He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this. ~Isaiah 9:7).
Who will accomplish this? Not politicians, nor government officials, nor religious leaders nor any man or woman.
The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this. ~Isaiah 9:7
Here's the thing...sometimes we can't help but lose sight of who's in charge, but sometimes we can choose not to (lose sight).
When we are looking to the Lord, the world fades into the background and the Lord's peace and plan pervades our spirit, even if we are in the middle of turbulence.
Don't lose sight of who's in charge of us today. We have a Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
