It's Fall and Harvest season in our house! I love to see pumpkins and mums, to sip apple cider, and to nibble maple cookies, pumpkin muffins, and acorn squash.
But for many, October is Halloween season, and for some, the fascination with spirits of the dead lasts all year long.
The growing-popularity and "education" of witchcraft is around us, and I dare say it is growing. But believers in God (or seekers of Him) shouldn't be intrigued, enticed or bewitched into seeking guidance over their lives from anyone but the Lord.
But shouldn’t people ask God for guidance? Should the living seek guidance from the dead? (20) Look to God’s instructions and teachings! ~Isaiah 8:19
~~~
Have you been to a fortune-teller, even "just for fun"? Ever had your tarot cards read? Or listened as someone told you what the lines on your hands mean?
We shouldn't.
If we are (in any way) asking anyone/anything/any spirit for guidance outside of God...we shouldn't.
If we are looking for direction today...Look to God’s instructions and teachings. The Bible leads us and feeds us with God's guidance for our lives. We don't need to "conjure" up any other methods or mutterings, and none will ever compare to the wisdom and fullness of God and His Word.
Someone may say to you, “Let’s ask the mediums and those who consult the spirits of the dead. With their whisperings and mutterings, they will tell us what to do.”
But shouldn’t people ask God for guidance? Should the living seek guidance from the dead?
(20) Look to God’s instructions and teachings!
People who contradict his word are completely in the dark. (21) They will go from one place to another, weary and hungry. And because they are hungry, they will rage and curse their king and their God. They will look up to heaven (22) and down at the earth, but wherever they look, there will be trouble and anguish and dark despair. They will be thrown out into the darkness. ~Isaiah 8:19-22
~~
Look to the Lord for guidance, in October and all year 'round.
There are those who ask the mediums and those who consult the spirits of the dead, but did we catch what the Bible says about them and
- Their lives (completely in the dark)
- Their purpose (they will go from one place to another, weary and hungry)
- Their temperament and contentment (And because they are hungry, they will rage and curse their king and their God).
- Their unawareness (and thus emptiness) of God's Truth (They will look up to heaven and down at the earth, but wherever they look, there will be trouble and anguish and dark despair).
- Their future ( They will be thrown out into the darkness).
October may be the month for candy, but God doesn't sugar-coat His Truths in the Bible. It's all here in raw form. Why would we seek guidance from the dead?
...shouldn’t people ask God for guidance? ...Look to God’s instructions and teachings! ~Isaiah 8:19-20
Lord, we are asking You for guidance today. We need You. We have questions. We wonder about our future, we worry about our today. Shield and shepherd us from the temptation of seeking guidance from anything or anyone other than You. We are alive in You, Lord, and we seek guidance NOT from the dead, but from our LIVING God. We look to Your instructions and teachings today. Amen.
Blessings,
sarah
