For the food today, we are thankful: The mounds of mashed potatoes, the carefully carved turkey, the rolls and beans, the gravy boats, and the pumpkin and pecan pies.  Thank You, Lord for the food You have provided us.

  • He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up toward heaven, He blessed the food, and breaking the loaves He gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds...  ~Matthew 14:19
  • So go ahead. Eat your food with joy and...with a happy heart, for God approves of this!  ~Ecclesiastes 9:7

For the people todaywe are thankful: The parents and siblings, the cousins and neighbors, the family, friends, and the sisters-and-brothers-in-Christ that God has grafted into our families and lives: Thank You, Lord for the people You have blessed us with.

  • So we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. – Romans 12:5
  • Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.  ~Mark 10:9
  • And you Gentiles, who were branches from a wild olive tree, have been grafted in. So now you also receive the blessing God has promised Abraham and his children, sharing in the rich nourishment from the root of God’s special olive tree.   ~Romans 11:17

For the people of yesterdaywe are thankful: Those who have gone before us.  Raised us, impressed-morals and faith upon us, imprinted themselves within us.  For those who inspired/encouraged/motivated/and believed in us...but whom are no longer here to gather at the table today: Thank You, Lord for the people You have blessed us with.

  • Abraham lived for 175 years, (8) and he died at a ripe old age, having lived a long and satisfying life. He breathed his last and joined his ancestors in death.  ~Genesis 25:7-8
  • These are the commands, decrees and laws the Lord your God directed me to teach you... (2) so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the Lord your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life... (3) Hear, Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you...  (5) Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.   (6) These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. (7) Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up...  (13) Fear the Lord your God, serve him only... (14) Do not follow other gods, the gods of the peoples around you...  (25) And if we are careful to obey all this law before the Lord our God, as he has commanded us, that will be our righteousness.”  ~Deuteronomy 6:1-3, 5-7, 13-14, 25
  • Children’s children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children.   ~ Proverbs 17:6

Beyond the food, the people and the memories of today, we are thankful for You, Lord God.  For Your Son and the sacrifice You gave (in Him), in order that we might be reconciled with You.

We are thankful for Your Bible which gives us hope and direction and gratitude for what lies before us in our lives today, for those whom we are able to share life with today, and for those who made it possible for us to be here today.

Thank You, Lord for the hope and promise of Your Word, which You have provided us.

Even the wilderness and desert will be glad in those days.  The wasteland will rejoice and blossom with spring crocuses.

(2) Yes, there will be an abundance of flowers and singing and joy!  There the Lord will display his glory, the splendor of our God.

(3) With this news, strengthen those who have tired hands, and encourage those who have weak knees.

(4) Say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, and do not fear, for your God is coming... He is coming to save you.”

(5) And when he comes, he will open the eyes of the blind and unplug the ears of the deaf.

(6) The lame will leap like a deer, and those who cannot speak will sing for joy!

(8) And a great road will go through that once deserted land.  It will be named the Highway of Holiness.  Evil-minded people will never travel on it.  It will be only for those who walk in God’s ways; fools will never walk there.

(9) Lions will not lurk along its course, nor any other ferocious beasts.

There will be no other dangers.  Only the redeemed will walk on it.  (10) Those who have been ransomed by the Lord will return.

They will enter Jerusalem singing, crowned with everlasting joy.

Sorrow and mourning will disappear, and they will be filled with joy and gladness.  ~Isaiah 35:1-6, 8-10

For Your Word and Your promises--we are thankful today.

Blessings,
