I love a good deal more than anyone.  I will take the time to clip coupons if it means stretching a dollar and if there is a sale...or better yet--clearance...count me in.  There are some deals that are just too good to pass up.

I've waited in pre-dawn chilly temperatures for Black Friday deals, and my general feeling is that good things are only made better when you can get them on sale or for-a-deal.  Perhaps you enjoy the same thrill and satisfaction from a great value.

But the Bible reminds us that there is one thing that cannot be discounted or sold at a lesser value: and that is God's truth.

Buy the truth and do not sell it—wisdom, instruction and insight as well.  ~Proverbs 23:23

What God says goes, and though it can be tempting/more comfortable/the-path-of-least-resistance to sometimes sell-out and settle for less than God's whole truth, God says Do not.

When and if we start compromising on what God says--then we have sold His truth.  And from the Bible (God's truth), we receive wisdom, instruction and insight as well...don't sell it.

There can be much allure and pressure and ease in not buying the truth, but...

What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?  ~Matthew 16:26

If we have settled for less-than-full-value of God's truth, then we have sold part of ourselves too, and there is no reward in that "bargain".  God is jealous for us, and He wants (and deserves) our full attention.

  • Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.  ~Deuteronomy 6:5
  • “You shall have no other gods before me."  ~Exodus 20:3

If we have settled for less-than-full-value of God's truth, He is not pleased when our hearts are divided in devotion for Him, and He is not unaware of our compromises.  We will also forfeit His favor in living that way.

So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.  ~Revelation 3:16

God knows what the world is like.  He foretold the challenges that we would have in staying true to His truth because He knows the hearts of men and women:

For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. (4) They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.  ~2 Timothy 4:3-4

God knows the hearts of men and women...and He knows your heart and mine too, which is why He encourages us today to stay strong in not compromising, settling, or "getting a good deal" on anything less than His full truth:

Buy the truth and do not sell it—wisdom, instruction and insight as well.  ~Proverbs 23:23

~~~
Even if we love a good deal more than anyone...not when it comes to the Bible.  Buy the truth and do not sell it today.  Pay full price for the full value of God's Word because Christ paid the full price on the cross so that we might have that opportunity to do so.
That's a deal that is just too good to pass up.
Blessings,
sarah
