Life is hard sometimes.

We have known the helplessness of being really ill.

We have known the devastation of total sorrow.

We have incurred the debts of pain, betrayal, hurt and trials.

Life is hard sometimes...but we come through it.  God restores our mental/physical/emotional/spiritual health (sometimes in different ways than we expect)...but He rescues us.

Even if we are currently going through hard things, we can know from past experience that we will come through it.

"Life happens" and bad things happen, and discipline happens, but God restores us, allows us to live, rescues us, and forgives all our sins.

I gotta praise Him for that today.  I gotta raise my voice in praise to Him for that today...because we can.

There will come a time (and we know many that have reached it) when we will go down to the grave...but that time is not today.

Only the living can praise you as we can today, and we will.  Each generation tells of your faithfulness to the next, and we will be that voice to them today.

Lord, your discipline is good, for it leads to life and health.  You restore my health and allow me to live!  (17) Yes, this anguish was good for me, for you have rescued me from death and forgiven all my sins.  (18)

For the dead cannot praise you; they cannot raise their voices in praise.  Those who go down to the grave can no longer hope in your faithfulness.  (19) Only the living can praise you as I do today.  Each generation tells of your faithfulness to the next.  ~Isaiah 38:16-19

?

Lord, your discipline is good...(?)

It can be very difficult to feel/see/experience the goodness of discipline in the moment of it.

But King Hezekiah's quote in the book of Isaiah is correct: As we review our hardest times....there you were, Lord.

Carrying us when we could not progress on our own.

Sitting in silence and holding us when that's all we could muster.

Teaching us lessons, establishing boundaries, and puncturing our pride when it was prudent for You to do so.

I have so many examples and memories in my life when the Lord's discipline was good for me, whether I wanted to receive it or not.

Pursuing the wrong career/calling/person/pursuits...

Lord, your discipline is good, for it leads to life and health.  ~Isaiah 38:16

Brooding/judging/criticizing someone else's issues, while ignoring mine.  (“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?   ~Matthew 7:3)

Lord, your discipline is good, for it leads to life and health.  ~Isaiah 38:16

Rushing, running.  Frenzied and frantic...when sitting at Your feet was all that was necessary.

Lord, your discipline is good, for it leads to life and health.  ~Isaiah 38:16

Life is hard sometimes.

We've known the helplessness...  We've known the devastation... We've incurred the debts...

But always and everytime... God is there.

He restores us and rescues us.  He even forgives all our sins.

We gotta praise Him for that today.  We gotta raise our voices in praise to Him for that today...because we can.

The day is coming (but ain't here yet!) when we will go down to the grave...but that day is not today.

Only the living can praise you today, and we will.  Each generation tells of your faithfulness to the next, and we will be that voice today.
