For to us a child is born... ~Isaiah 9:6
Tis the Season. The Christmas Season: everything's decorated and animated and jovial. We are too...until we're not.
Tis the Season for church and outreaches and invitations...until we're standing at church, singing "Silent Night", like we have every Christmas Eve for as long as we can remember, and suddenly the tears come, because we remember.
Tis the Season to be jolly...until (even though it's been years)...we miss that person so much we can barely breathe.
Tis the Season of wonder and hope...until a recent and raw loss sucks all the hope and joy from our spirit.
Tis the Season for many things: most of them tradition-filled, Scripture-tied, and memory-making. But, if we have lived long enough--the Holidays are also a Season filled with sad-remembrances of dear ones that no longer live here, and won't gather 'round the tree with us this year.
What can we do with those seasonal feelings? With those sad aches and sometimes bitter bouts related to the loved ones that we miss at the Holidays.
We need someone to talk to. A counselor.
We need someone strong, who can handle the thoughts, feelings, memories and questions that we usually keep locked away. We need someone mighty.
We need tenderness, but we also need strength. We need to know it's going to be okay, even though (in that moment) we aren't sure that it will be. We need a loving dad, a strong father.
We need a calming of our chaotic-spirit. The hustle of the Season, coupled with the walk-through-the-Scriptures of Christ's birth...it's good, and it's foundational...but sometimes it's too much. The pace of Christmas can sweep us up and engulf us. We need peace.
We're looking all-over for all-of-these things during the Christmas Season. But everything we seek lies right in front of us...in the manger.
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called Wonderful Counselor,
Mighty God,
Everlasting Father,
Prince of Peace.
(7) Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this. ~Isaiah 9:6-7
Tis the Season of highs and lows, and we need someone to talk to, and we have someone: And he will be called Wonderful Counselor (Isaiah 9:6)
We need someone strong, who can handle us, our emotions and our questions...and we have a Mighty God to turn to.
When we're sad, broken, lonely or forlorn during this Season, we have the strong arms of our Everlasting Father to run into, and to be held by.
Always and for (actual) ever...we can escape the madness and sadness and chaos because we belong the Prince of Peace.
~~~
Tis the Season of family, friends, traditions and good times...until it's not. And in those (sad/broken/lost) moments-, as well as the seasonal high's, we can go to Jesus because "Tis the Season" for Him to be our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the greatness of his government and peace over our hearts and lives there will be no end (Isaiah 9:7).
If we will allow Him, He will reign...establishing and upholding...justice and righteousness within us and over our daily lives and Holidays...forever.
So, tis the Season for many things and feelings...and that's okay. Whatever help, shoulder, direction or comfort we need...we have it in Jesus.
Tis the Season to remember His birth (For to us a child is born, to us a son is given... ~Isaiah 9:6), and as we remember and experiences life's ups and downs of this Season, God has given us our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace.
Blessings,
