A friend of mine gave me beautiful earrings for Christmas this year--such a thoughtful gift.

A loved one gave me cookie sheets this year, (mine are almost twenty years old)--I am so excited about this gift!

A number of friends gave us cookie plates this year--what delicious gifts!

We will spend some special time with my dad and sister (and family) in a few days--what a precious gift family in-the-present can be.

One day in the future I will get to see my mom in Heaven--what a hopeful gift the knowledge of Eternity with other Believers is.

Baby dolls, soccer balls, outfits, tool sets, video games, bicycles, perfumes, gift cards...there will be gifts upon gifts given today.

But the greatest gift ever given--the one gift that changes our perspective, our directive, and our lives...we celebrate the birth of that Gift today.

  • ...the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.  ~Romans 6:23
  • Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.   ~Luke 2:11

That gift came wrapped up in swaddling cloths in a manger in Bethlehem and He is celebrated and offered to us all over again...or for the first time today.

Receive the gift of Jesus today.

Christmas Day is His birthday and December 25th commemorates 2023 years since God gave Him to us as an undeserved, unmerited, freewill love-offering.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  ~John 3:16

There will be many gifts given today, but none are greater (or even come close) to the gift that we have available to us in the form of Christ Jesus our Lord.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.  ~Romans 6:23

Receive the gift of Jesus today.

Many of us will give many gifts today.  Did you have any hard-to-buy-for people on your list this year?  Or how about just plain not-sure-what-to-get-them people?

Call it spiritual, (or call it corny), but I had the idea that the best gift I could give to the people that I wasn't-sure-what-to-give, is God's Word.  The Bible is my greatest gift in day-to-day life, and God's Word gives me life each day, and so I had the notion to give the gift of Jesus this year.

Jesus told us to "go and make disciples", and our guidebook is The Good Book, but how can others be taught to obey what God has commanded, unless they know what God says.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”  ~Matthew 28:19-20

Give the gift of Jesus today.

What the recipients will do with the gift of God is up to them.  But the giving of the gift of God...that can be/should be/is up to us.

He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

(31) They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.”...  (34) The jailer brought them into his house and set a meal before them; he was filled with joy because he had come to believe in God—he and his whole household.  ~Acts 16:31, 34

We will receive gifts today.  We will give gifts today.  But the greatest gift ever given--the one gift that changes our perspective, our directive, our today, and our tomorrow--that gift is Jesus.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.  ~Romans 6:23

Receive the gift of Jesus today and give the gift of Jesus today.  No matter what is waiting for us under the tree, there is no more thoughtful, exciting, precious, hopeful and eternal gift that can be given and received.

Blessings,

sarah
