The gifts have all been unwrapped.  The stockings, once filled are now empty and flat.  Grandiose meals have been cooked, served, cleaned up--and only leftovers remain.  Christmas is over for another year...or is it?

Christmas shouldn't be over--ever, or at least not the word concerning Christmas.  Today and tomorrow and the day after, we should spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child (Luke 2:17).

That's what the shepherds did after seeing and celebrating the birth of Jesus, and they are an excellent example to us of what to do on "the day after" and the days after Christmas.

So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. (17) When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, (18) and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them... (20) The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.  ~Luke 2:16-18, 20

The Christmas church services are over, the Christmas songs are winding-down on the radio and pretty soon we will undecorate...but we can't let our joy in sharing the Good News of God's Son deflate.

On the contrary: may the spirit of this Season and Jesus being the reason--INFLATE our passion and zest for sharing the hope of Jesus with others.

The shepherds were affected by their privilege of seeing Jesus.  And after they had encountered Him, they could not help but to tell others about Him.

When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, (18) and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them... (20) The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.  ~Luke 2:16-18, 20

And because the shepherds got bold and brave about spreading the word concerning Jesus...other people were affected.

and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them...  ~Luke 2:16

It is pretty amazing--that God created us (Psalm 139:13), and that He saw that we were sinful and needing payment for our sin, and so He sent His Son to be born and to die for us (John 3:16).

And that in between the moment that we accept Jesus into our heart and the moment He takes us home to Glory...He's got plans for us--good plans (Jeremiah 29:11)!

This is no secret, but the truth of God's love for us and His plans for us cannot be known unless someone spreads the word concerning it.

So--although the wrappings of Christmas might be over (today), the promise/hope/truth/and salvation of Christ at Christmas never will be.

So--let's continue to spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child,

(18) and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them...

(20) The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.  ~Luke 2:16-18, 20

Have we been affected by our privilege of seeing Jesus in our hearts and lives?  Then let's get bold and brave about spreading the word concerning Jesus...so that other people can be affected.

The gift of Jesus lasts long after Christmas Day.  Jesus is available every day and all year.  We just need to spread the word.

Blessings,

sarah
