There was glitter in the air today.  As the rising-sun rays laid their beams into my front window, I could see snow crystals in the air.  I couldn't capture it with a camera, but I saw it with my eyes: beautiful glittery dust dancing in the atmosphere.

Out the next window (without sunlight)...nothing.  No snow bright specs or diamond-particles swirling in the front yard air...that I could see.  It was just invisible air--nothing to be seen by the naked eye.

But those snow crystals were still there...they just weren't revealed without the direct sun rays illuminating them.

Visible and prove-able or not, I could feel them on my face when I went out...they left a soft mist.  And in direct sun--I could see them all over.  I knew they were there, even if my camera could not capture the image (or the magic) of them, to produce evidence.

Isn't this an exact description of our faith in God and of His presence here before us, all around us, and within us?

Nevertheless, as surely as I live and as surely as the glory of the Lord fills the whole earth...   ~Numbers 14:21

He's here...and He's present.

We've had times when He's made Himself so known to us that we might as well have had a soft mist left on our face by Him.  He was that palpable in our moment of sorrow, joy, tribulation, or triumph.

The Lord your God in your midst, the Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.  ~Zephaniah 3:17

And then there are many times, perhaps most times, when we know He's here, but we have absolutely no physical evidence of this Truth, just an awareness, a belief, our faith, and a "knowing".

Where can I go from your Spirit?  Where can I flee from your presence?  (8) If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.  (9) If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, (10) even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.   ~Psalm 139:7-9

Visible and prove-able or not--our God is real, and our faith functional and true.  We accept the reality of God on faith, and there are even times (special times) when we almost capture the beauty and mystery and miracle of His Presence in our lives.

But most days, God is like the wind (or snow particles in the sunlight):

The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”  John 3:8

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.  ~Hebrews 11:1

Thank you for the beauty and mystery of Your creation, Lord, such as snow crystals in the rays of sunrise on a frigid, clear morning. Thank you (more), Lord, for the beauty and mystery and miracle of Your presence with us.  We see You even when we can't see You.  We feel you even when You are not tangible.  Our evidence of You goes beyond touch and sight, and extends into our heart and soul.  Thank you for making Yourself known to us in both concrete and invisible ways.  Amen.

And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.  ~Matthew 28:20
