A couple years ago, while on vacation, my husband took us to a quarry to search for gems.  I've done the commercialized panning for gems at tourist attractions, where they give you a bag of dirt and everyone magically finds a few "gems", but this was not like that.

Miles (and miles) off the beaten path and down an eventually unpaved road, cars spilled into a makeshift dirt parking lot in the middle of six-acres of dirt, and hills of dirt, and caves of dirt, and tons of dirt.  It was a quarry.

And after you had paid your $10 per person, they let you wander.  Nothing was provided, but you were welcome to bring whatever you wanted to aid in your gem-uncovering adventures, from shovels to pick-axes, to flashlights, to 5-gallon buckets for dipping and rinsing "finds"...people had everything and people were trying everything to find their possible treasures of amethyst, aquamarine, quartz, garnet, and of course, diamonds.

We came away with sore backs, some tiny gem keepsakes, and happy hearts.  "The big one" must have been in someone else's shovel-full of dirt, or I just plain missed it in the piles that I spent a couple hours sifting through.  But we had a great time anyway.

What are we seeking today?  What's the dream?  What treasure eludes us?  What would deliver us?

“Listen to me, all who hope for deliverance—all who seek the Lord!  Consider the rock from which you were cut, the quarry from which you were mined.  (2) Yes, think about Abraham, your ancestor, and Sarah, who gave birth to your nation.  Abraham was only one man when I called him.  But when I blessed him, he became a great nation.”  ~Isaiah 51:1-2

The Bible reminds us that we do not have to dig very deep to find the Source of everything we desire.  God is our deliverer, and if we will seek Him, we will find Him (Jeremiah 29:13).  He does not hide Himself or make connection with Him complicated.  He desires to be found by us, and because we are His, He made us in His image.  (So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.  ~Genesis 1:27).

And so, if we are His, then this Truth should shape our days and our lives:
Consider the rock from which you were cut, the quarry from which you were mined.  ~Isaiah 51:1

We are cut from the rock of God.  We (as His children) have been mined from His good and almighty quarry.

If we can receive that Truth today, and step-into-it...then God has plans for us, just as He had plans for Abraham: Yes, think about Abraham, your ancestor, and Sarah, who gave birth to your nation.  Abraham was only one man when I called him.  But when I blessed him, he became a great nation.” (Isaiah 51:2).

I don't know that we will have half the impact for God that Abraham had, but Abraham knew the rock from which he was cut and the quarry from which he was mined, and that knowledge changed the course of his lifeWe can know that today too, and that Truth can change the course of our life too.

If we were to just know and accept (and embrace) that we are cut and mined from a Holy God today, then we are off to a great start.

And God's not done educating us about who He is.  We'll spend our whole lives discovering this, and then Eternity enjoying this.

Today, (first) "Listen" to God, all who hope for deliverance—all who seek the Lord!
Consider the rock from which you were cut, the quarry from which you were mined” (Isaiah 51:1).

And then (second): Remember who God is...how mighty He is...and that we are cut from His quarry:

For I am the Lord your God, who stirs up the sea, causing its waves to roar.  My name is the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.  (16) And I have put my words in your mouth and hidden you safely in my hand.  I stretched out the sky like a canopy and laid the foundations of the earth.  I am the one who says to Israel, ‘You are my people!’”  ~Isaiah 51:15-16

We're His people.  We were cut from God's rock and we were mined from His quarry.

There is no commercialism with our God, no placebo-children or fake, "planted" gems in His quarry.  Each of us are the real deal to Him, and we just need to get sincere about Him.

We are His people!  All treasure comes from His quarry, and we come from His quarry!

Consider the rock from which you were cut, the quarry from which you were mined.  ~Isaiah 51:1

Blessings,

sarah
