Jesus interceded for us and took-on (bore) our sins on the cross.

But before Jesus bore for us (over 700 years before He bore), the prophet Isaiah told people and prophisied that Jesus would do that for us.

The Bible (Old and New Testament) proves the Bible (Old and New Testament).

Seven hundred years before Jesus "came on the scene", He was (of course) behind the scenes.  He and the Father were orchestrating the scene, the backdrop, the final curtain, and they had also already orchestrated the Easter morning encore performance of the risen Christ.

Isaiah described the early (and normal) life of Jesus (long before Jesus ever came to be "born" to Mary and Joseph.)

He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground.  He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.  ~Isaiah 53:2

Isaiah then penned the punishment of Jesus.

He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.  Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.

(4) Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted.

(5) But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed...

He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.  ~Isaiah 53:3-5, 7

But, how could Isaiah have known that Jesus would have have spikes pounded into His hands and feet, "piercing" Him for our transgressions?

Or that Roman soldiers (Rome did not exist in Isaiah's day!) would crush Jesus with insults, abuse, and floggings: punishing Him for sins that Jesus never committed, but we did.

Isaiah goes on to describe the deliberate (and unprotesteddeath of Jesus.

By oppression and judgment he was taken away.  Yet who of his generation protested?  For he was cut off from the land of the living; for the transgression of my people he was punished.

(9) He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth.

(10) Yet it was the Lord’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the Lord makes his life an offering for sin, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the Lord will prosper in his hand.  ~Isaiah 53:8-10

Isaiah then waxes eloquent about the life-after-death of Jesus ...

After he has suffered, he will see the light of life and be satisfied; by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities.

(12) Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors.  ~Isaiah 53:11-12

Even before (long before) any of the events of Jesus' last days occurred, God gave Isaiah the inspiration to explain the purpose of the Christ's last days..

We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.  ~Isaiah 53:6

...for the transgression of my people he was punished.  ~Isaiah 53:8

...by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities.  ~Isaiah 53:11

For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.  ~Isaiah 53:12

Isaiah describes the life, persecution, death, and purpose of our Prince of Peace, long before Jesus came, but not before Jesus was hoped for.  Men (and women) have always had a longing in their heart to be made "right" with God and to be known by Him.  Jesus Christ was (is!) the in-real-life answer to the soul-questions of humanity.

Seven hundred years before Jesus "came on the scene", He was (of course) behind the scenes.  He and the Father were orchestrating the scene, the backdrop, the final curtain, and they had also already orchestrated the Easter morning encore performance of the risen Christ.

As we look forward to Good Friday and Easter, I pray we will not be preoccupied by who will buy the ham or host the Easter feast.

Remember what Jesus did for us on Good Friday and how he defied-death on Easter morning!

Isaiah "remembered" what Jesus did for us...seven hundred years before Jesus even did it!

Isaiah couldn't possibly have known exactly what he was saying..but he knew to obey the Lord in saying and doing what God told him to do...which was to share these words, prophecy, and vision others.

What is God asking us to be obedient in today?  Even if we don't fully understand it?  Even if we can't fully (or even partially) explain it.

Will we trust God and His sovereignty over our lives today?  He is orchestrating our scenes, our backdrop, and even when our final curtain (on earth) will fall.  And the God of the universe (through sending His Son to calvary for us) has also already orchestrated our encore performance of being raised to glory with Him.

All glory to God, and a heartfelt thanks to Isaiah for giving us a 700-year lead and head's-up about all of it.

Blessings,

sarah
