This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: (5) “Say to Daughter Zion, ‘See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’”

(6) The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. (7) They brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on.

(8) A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. (9) The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David!”

“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”

“Hosanna in the highest heaven!”

(10) When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?”

(11) The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.”  ~Matthew 21:5-11

Shout "Hosanna!" today!

Our Savior, Jesus, who rode into Jerusalem on a donkey many (many) "Palm Sunday's" ago was greeted by this greeting of "Hosanna".

Why?

Because the people standing before and around Jesus recognized Him as their Savior, and they could not keep themselves from welcoming, receiving, praising, and yearning for Him.

Hosanna is actually a plea for salvation. The Hebrew root words are found in Psalm 118:25, which says, “Save us, we pray, O LORD!”.  The Hebrew words yasha (“deliver, save”) and anna (“beg, beseech”) combine to form the word that, in English, is “hosanna.”  Literally, hosanna means “I beg you to save!” or “please deliver us!” (gotquestions.org).

They recognized that Jesus was their Messiah, and so they were praising Him and (at the same time) requesting-of-Him to save them.

The cry of their Jewish hearts that day in Jerusalem is still the cry of our hearts today, wherever we are.

“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”

“Hosanna in the highest heaven!”  ~Mark 21:9

It's a great day to praise the Lord.  He deserves it.  He is worthy.  He is (still) right here, waiting to save us.  He provides salvation to any of us that receive Him into our hearts, and He pours fresh salvation into those of us who have wandered from Him or have gotten distracted or over-scheduled.

Come back to Jesus today and bless Him.  He comes in the name of the Lord.  He is Hosanna in the highest heaven.

Like those lining the streets of Jerusalem on that first Palm Sunday, may we stand before Him today and recognize Jesus as our Savior today.  May we become vulnerable to Him and may we enter into welcoming, receiving, praising, and yearning for Him today.

As he went along, people spread their cloaks on the road.

(37) When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen:

(38) “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!”

“Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”

(39) Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!”

(40) “I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”  ~Luke 19:28-40

Don't keep quiet about Jesus today!  It's a great day to praise the Lord, and He is worthy to be praised.  Cry out(!) because He is our Savior.

  • Therefore I will praise you, Lord, among the nations; I will sing the praises of your name.  ~2 Samuel 22:50
  • Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name.  ~Hebrews 13:15

  • Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the one Israel praises.  ~Psalm 22:3

For the sunrise and the sunset, for the waves and the desert sands, for golden-doodles and cherry strudel: It's a great day to praise the Lord.

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.  Praise the Lord.  ~Psalm 150:6

For the strength to walk, for the will to live, for the hope of healing and all that God gives: It's a great day to praise the Lord.

“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”  ~Matthew 21:9

For the gift of salvation, and the Father's heart in giving it.  For forgiveness and redemption and lives that are living it: It's a great day to praise the Lord.

“Hosanna in the highest heaven!”  ~Matthew 21:9

The next day the great crowd that had come for the festival heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem. (13) They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, “Hosanna!”

“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”

“Blessed is the king of Israel!”  ~John 12:12-13

~~~
May we stand before Jesus and recognize Him as our Savior today.  Blessed is he, and it's a great day to praise Him.
Blessings,
