I hope that like the woman with the alabaster jar, we can pause for Jesus today.  We can adorn our Lord with our affections today.  We can stop worrying (or even considering) what others think of our devotion to Jesus, and we can just be devoted to Jesus today.

While he was in Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head.

(4) Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, “Why this waste of perfume? (5) It could have been sold for more than a year’s wages and the money given to the poor.” And they rebuked her harshly.

(6) “Leave her alone,” said Jesus. “Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. (7) The poor you will always have with you, and you can help them any time you want. But you will not always have me. (8) She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body beforehand to prepare for my burial. (9) Truly I tell you, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.”  ~Mark 14:3-9

Let's forget about what's on the to-do list and ignore what others might think...and let's seek out Jesus today.  Let's humble ourselves before Him and adore Him.  Let's treat Him extravagantly with our resources.

Our Savior deserves it, and no one and nothing else will matter in the end anyway.

“Leave her alone,” said Jesus. “Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me."  ~Mark 14:6

Let's do a beautiful thing to Jesus today.

I pray that like Peter, we can be passionate and devoted about our faith in Jesus today.  We get excited about touchdowns and goals and homeruns...let's get passionate and devoted to Jesus today.

Then Jesus told them, “This very night you will all fall away on account of me, for it is written:

“‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’ (32) But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.”

(33) Peter replied, “Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will.”  ~Matthew 26:31-33

Let's get passionate like Peter!

Today, let's stop being passive and apathetic and let's make a move or declare our allegiance to Jesus Christ.

Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant, cutting off his right ear. (The servant’s name was Malchus.)  ~John 18:10

I'm not saying that Peter was perfect.  But he was passionate about his devotion to Jesus, and this we can admire and aspire to.

We may (also) know that even though Peter promised Jesus that “Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will”, Peter did fall away from Jesus (three times before the rooster crowed the following morning).

And although Peter's passion took off the ear of Malchus in the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus was not impressed, and reprimanded Peter...because all that was happening had to happen.

Jesus commanded Peter, “Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?”

(12) Then the detachment of soldiers with its commander and the Jewish officials arrested Jesus.  ~John 18:11-12

That's the thing about passion--it's admirable when it's appropriate, but we have to keep it in control.

Today, like the woman with the alabaster jar, let's pause for Jesus.  Let's adorn our Lord with our affections today.  Let's stop worrying (or even considering) what others think of our devotion to Jesus, and let's just be devoted to Jesus today!

On fire, but in-control, I pray that (like Peter), we can be passionate and devoted about our faith in Jesus today.

Blessings,
