My husband has been spending time prepping his garden.  Intentional and diligent, he has tilled the dirt...multiple times.  He has pulled the weeds...twice!  He has prepped the holes for inserting his plants, and he has dug spaces for peppers, zucchini, tomatoes, and more.

He is ready for what comes next, and so he just needs to buy his plants.  He has done the work.  He has prepared.  He is ready for the next step, and that is an amazing position to be in.

Where are we in our walk with Jesus?  Have we tilled the soil of sin in our lives? Twice?  Or maybe a hundred times over the years?  Are we serving God on the surface or superficially?  Are we turning over our dirt for God to bring a harvest of His intentions into our lives?

As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. (2) He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. (3) “Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. (4) All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”  ~Luke 21:1-4

Have we pulled the weeds?  Weeds of pride.  Weeds of sin.  Weeds of selfishness. Weeds of self-pity.  Weeds of unforgiveness.  Weeds of resentment.

Have we pulled the weeds from the soil of our hearts to make-ready for what God wants to plant next?

“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. (26) Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean."  ~Matthew 23:25-26

Are we ready for the next stage? If Christ were to come back today, how would He find us?  With our hearts and minds turned over and toward Him?  With the soil of our hearts tilled and the weeds of sin pulled?

Being "ready" for what comes next (Jesus and judgment and Eternity) may sound intimidating, but Jesus was very clear that it needn't be.  It's as easy as A, B, C.

Admit that we are sinful, and He is holy.

...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God... ~Romans 3:23

Believe in Jesus Christ.

They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.”  ~Acts 16:31

Confess that Christ is our Savior and turn from our wicked ways (sin).

...that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.  ~Romans 10:9

Once we encounter and accept Jesus, then the Holy Spirit begins working in us and we are drawn into the spiritual transformation of becoming more like Christ.  He is holy, and so knowing Him and loving Him causes us to desire to be more (holy) like Him.

But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; (16) for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”  ~ I Peter 15-16

Are we ready for what comes next?

Are we spending time being intentional and diligent in prepping our hearts and lives for the Lord?  There will come a day when dirt will be dug for our earthly body. but our spiritual soul will reside elsewhere.  Where?  It does not need to be a question.  It does not need to be a fear.

“Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap. (35) For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth. (36) Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”  ~Luke 21:34-36

Jesus Christ welcomes all who come unto Him.  (Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.  (29) Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  (30) My yoke is easy and my burden is light.  ~Matthew 11:28-30).

Are we spending our days coming unto Him, and tilling our spiritual soil to make ourselves fertile for Him; removing the weeds of sin from our life and heart?

Are we ready for what comes next?

If we know Jesus and seek to serve Him with our lives, then the answer is, “Yes”.  We are ready for the next step, and that is an amazing position to be in.

Blessings,

sarah
