One of my besties is on vacation this week, and she sent me a picture of the beach outside her window.

Let's go.

No--I'm serious: let's take a break in our day and get away with Jesus.  Who doesn't need a moment of relaxation and rejuvenation right now, and (Guess what?) we don't have to hop on a plane or drive hours to get there.

Jesus offers us His peace anytime and anywhere we ask.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. (29) Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.   ~Matthew 11:28-29

Let's let those words wash over us like waves at the seashore.

The Lord knows that we get battered by the storms of life and crushed by its waves sometimes.  But we serve a God who is mightier than anything we face, and He invites us to step-away with Him in spirit right now.  He reminds us of His power and might.  We do not face anything alone today.

Mightier than the thunder of the great waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea—the Lord on high is mighty.  ~Psalm 93:4

So, let's take a deep breath.  Pretend that we can smell the salty air and feel the sea-spray wet our skin.  Let's close our eyes and inhale the Word of God and the ways-of-God.  He has led us beside Him today.  Lie down next to Him and His Word:

  • He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters...  ~Psalm 23:2
  • You rule over the surging sea; when its waves mount up, you still them.  ~Psalm 89:9

Waves can crash, but they can also lull and lap gently.  That's the kind of day-at-the-beach that we are enjoying with Jesus today.

Slow down and sit with Him awhile.  Take in the beauty and peace of our Savior and of God's creation today, wherever we are.

The Lord has a plan for us today, and it's not full of chaos and disorder, but instead, the Bible promises that God knows all about our day (and our lives), and He has prescribed order and purpose to it.

  •  ...all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.  ~Psalm 139:16
  • For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  ~Jeremiah 29:11

Let's let our mind and hearts and worries go on vacay with Jesus today.  He calls us to Himself, repeatedly, steadily, even rhythmically, just like waves crashing on a beach.

So let's go.

Let's go to be with our Savior today.  Time with Him is a respite, a retreat, and a vacation from the focuses of this world.

And surely I am with you always, even to the end of the age.  ~Matthew 28:20

Blessings,

sarah
