A friend of our family just had a birthday...her spiritual birthday.  She asked Jesus to come into her heart and her life, and she acknowledged Him as her Lord and Savior.

The Bible calls that being "born again".

Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. (2) This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.”

(3) Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

(4) Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?”

(5) Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. (6) That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. (7) Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ (8) The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”  ~John 3:1-8

Asking Jesus into our lives is the biggest decision we will ever make.  It's life changing, literally...and eternity changing: We get to spend it with Him!).

And I was so excited and blessed and encouraged by this young woman's decision to take the hand of Jesus and let Him lead her.

I got her a card and I gathered a few things that I hoped might make her feel loved and welcomed into the family of God, but what should I write in the card?

In a word: where do you start in what to say to someone who has just discovered Jesus and entered into faith with Him?

I like to write, and I had my card, but: What to write?

God answered my question (What to write?) in His own words.  Through Scripture.  Through the Scriptures that I read when I opened the Bible today, an hour before I was to see this young woman and celebrate her (spiritual) "birthday".

And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. (7) Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.  ~Colossians 2:6-7

Some of us had our spiritual "birthdays" many (many) years ago.  We have known the Lord for a long time.  So long, that sometimes we forget how to live for Him, or even why.

Not on purpose, and quite unintentionally, we can grow stale in our fervor for God or distant in our connection to the Lord.

We may be wondering today how to reconnect with Him or where to begin anew?

God answers our question in His own words.  Through Scripture.

Remember the fervor and flare of our early days in knowing Christ?  That zeal can be reignited and it begins (simply) with following him (continuing to follow him).  Maybe that means picking back up where we left off a while ago.

Maybe our roots need to be reburied in Him.  Perhaps our lives need to be rebuilt on him.

A newborn in Christ, or a senior-citizen in our years with Him...God speaks to us wherever we are in our faith today.  He answers our questions in His own words.  Through Scripture.

And we will know and feel and experience the Holy Spirit moving in us and our lives when we continue to follow him.

How?  What will the proof and truth be?

Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.  ~Colossians 2:7

What to say to a new Believer in Christ?  The same thing that we would say to an old Believer in Christ, and the very same thing that God says to us today:

And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. (7) Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.  ~Colossians 2:6-7
