Once, one (single!) morning of approximately three thousand, three hundred and sixty (3,360) mornings over my 14 years at my current job....just/only/merely...once, I found a mouse stuck to a trap in the bathroom.

I hate mice.

Just once has this ever happened, and I know the old adage that "there is never just one mouse", but I can also attest that once that one (ugly/disgusting/pesky/dirty/vermin) mouse was removed...I've never seen evidence or proof of another since.

But...

Every day I peek at the (new) sticky mouse trap in our office bathroom, just in case, and to be sure there is not another one.

Every day.

Every.  Single.  Day.

I'll never forget that (yucky) mouse sharing my space...and I never want to forget it.  I stay vigilant in watching-out for another.  Every day.

~~~
If one tiny mouse can make me do a double take at the back bathroom wall at work every single day...then why are we not half as vigilant and regular (and fearful) of being on alert for the devil?
Don't kid yourself...He's here.  He's around.  Satan is very present, whether we "see" him or not.  He is always close and he is always trying to trip-us-up and make-us-stumble.
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.  ~I Peter 5:8
I felt him in our house just last night.  Not with a scythe for reaping or a dagger to my neck, but with sharp words at our supper table and daggers to hearts.  Scathing notions and comments are not at the heart of our family relationships, but the devil was prowling.
He sure doesn't like functional families or happy marriages. He will use words, emotions and attitudes to trip us up and impede our progress for Christ in any area that he can.
Don't let the devil trip us today.
Stay vigilant in watching-out for him every day, and here is a tip: we won't always identify him easily, like a mouse in the house.  He will be in the tiny temptation, and the jab at our pride, and the tug of entitlement.
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.  ~Ephesians 6:12
The devil does his best to bring out our worst.  And if we know that, we can be vigilant to fight that today, by the grace and power of our Lord.
The devil even tried to trip up Jesus.
Jesus!  But (Surprise!)--it didn't work.
Don't let him "work" on us today either.  If we know Jesus and know God's Word...both will keep us pure, even in temptation.
Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. (2) And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. (3) Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”
(4) But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”  ~Matthew 4:1-4
~~~

You couldn't get hungrier than after fasting for forty days and forty nights, and then the devil attempts to dangle the idea of bread before Jesus.

But you don't dupe the Bread of Life, and Jesus wasn't falling for it.  We can't fall for satan's lies either, Brothers and Sisters in Christ!

Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.  ~John 6:35

~~~
We are at war, that's for sure.  Just look around.  Listen around.  Feel around.
The father of lies is creeping around like an (ugly/disgusting/pesky/dirty/vermin) mouse scurrying in the dark.
He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.  ~John 8:44
Don't believe a word he says today.  Be vigilant.
Every day we must be watching and proactive...just in case, and to be sure that he is not cajoling us.
Every day.
Every.  Single.  Day.
He's after us, but Jesus has us.  And I pray that we don't dare (or be duped) to share our space with the devil today.  Stay vigilant in watching-out for Him.  Every day.
Blessings,
sarah
