What is it with the fruit flies lately? Working in my kitchen, or sitting in my dining room...they are fluttering and hovering, and they are in my way, in my peripheral vision, and on my nerves. I am always swatting the air and shoo-ing them from my space.
Maybe it's the season, or maybe it's the ripe bananas in my fruit basket, or maybe it's I have no idea...but the fruit flies are distracting me and stealing some of my peace, patience, and happy.
But, with a wave of the hand, they disperse and the air around me is clear.
Fruit flies are a nuisance, but they don't rule over me. I can't let them.
And fruit flies aren't the only things that steal some of our peace, patience, and happy...are they? This world and its people are broken and flawed, and sinful, and so are we. But we serve a Savior and King who is whole and holy, and without flaw or blemish. Jesus Christ and the hope that we have in Him is a wave of the hand, dispersing and diminishing the world's worries.
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” ~John 16:33

Sin strikes us, sorrow sucks us, fear grips us, worries waste us...but wave God's Word in the heavy clouds of today and feel the spiritual air clear.
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. ~Philippians 4:13

When worries/anxieties/responsibilities/and realities flutter/hover/and hang-out in our peripheral, soothe the worries of the world away with a wave of God's word.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (7) And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. ~Philippians 4:6-7

Troubles come, but we don't face them alone. Chronic pain and problems persist, but we have Someone holding our hand through the long days and stretched-seasons.
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. (28) I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. (29) My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. (30) I and the Father are one.” ~John 10:27-30
Maybe it's fruit flies, or cancer, or pressure, or pain, or a difficult person, or fear, or I have no idea what is bothering us today...but whatever pesky thing is distracting us and stealing some of our peace, patience, and happy...wave the Savior in its midst, and watch Him work.
Unfortunately, troubles (this side of Heaven) don't often "melt like lemon drops", but God does dispel our burdens in ways that might surprise us today. However, in order for Him to lighten our load, we have to give it to Him.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. (29) Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (30) For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” ~John 16:28-30
Fruit flies are pesky and annoying, but their lifespan is short. God is eternal. He is powerful, and He overcame sin and death for our sake. God's love and protection over us supersedes everything that is attempting to distract or deflate us today.
This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him. (3) For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease.4 He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. ~Psalm 91:2-3
