Today's the big day, and I don't mean it's a birthday, holiday, or the day we leave for vacation: we have a surgery for one of our children today.

It's big...but God uniquely directed us to the doctor, and he's excellent.

My heart breaks for the process our son is embarking upon...but the Lord has used many people to confirm the decision and outcome of this surgery.

The today scares me...but I believe in the promise that God has given us for tomorrow.

But I'm not the only one walking the faith-tightrope today...What are you trusting God for today?

Odds are, we all need a reminder of His promises to us for this day.

"The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”  ~Deuteronomy 31:8

A few weeks back, before I even knew about the necessity or positive-outcome of this surgery, I cried out to God for direction...and He gave it.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; (6) in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.  ~Proverbs 3:5-6

The Lord gives each of us that verse over our lives.  He wrote the Bible for us, and as a tool for us to better understand our Heavenly Father's heart for us...and how we can live in fellowship with Him today.  Even when we sometimes have no idea which decision to make or path to take.  If we will trust Him and in Him...He will straighten things out for us.

That's my prayer for us today...and that's God's promise for us today.  Believe it.

But--that's the "catch" of faith-in-God, isn't it?--The "faith" part.  The believing-without-seeing part.

We have the Bible to gain direction and insight for our today's and our tomorrows.  We read it.  He reveals Himself to us in Word and Spirit.  We get it.  We even believe it.  It's all going to be okay.

But then we get to the "it".

We can see/say/pray that "it" will be okay, but only in complete faith can we experience God's peace as we walk bald-faced into the "it".

Into the surgery.

Into the move across the country.

Into the brand new job.

Into the diagnosis.

Into the dorm room freshman year.

Into forgiveness for someone who has hurt us deeply.

Into marriage.

Into widowhood.

Into today.

We can trust all that God has "told" us about today:

  • “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life...(26) Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? (27) Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?  ~Matthew 6:25-27

  • Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.  (9) Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.  ~Isaiah 58:7-9

We can (and must) remember all of the ways that the Lord has already shown Himself and proven Himself to us and to other believers:

Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.  ~Deuteronomy 4:9

Today's the big day...and (whatever we encounter) it is God's day.

This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.  ~Psalm 118:24

The today no longer scares me...because I believe and have faith and must trust in the process and the promise of God.

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.  ~Hebrews 11:1
