Then this city will bring me joy, glory, and honor before all the nations of the earth! ~Jeremiah 33:9
Can we do that today? Can we bring God joy, glory, and honor today?
How?
You decide for you.
And...I'll decide for me.
Or...we could be blessed to enter into the methods of others who are bringing joy, glory and honor to God.
In preparation for a family vacation, my husband and our eldest son decided to design and print matching t-shirts for each member on the trip. (Yes, we are that family.)
Can you make a family t-shirt that brings joy, glory and honor to God? They sure did.
With a (tasteful) cross and an artfully written "Jesus is the reason for the season", our t-shirts received a surprising number of agreeing nods and even "Amens" as we meandered through crowds and passed people throughout the day that we all donned them.
Did these people already know the Lord? It seems so, but did we bring God joy, glory, and honor by lifting Him up via our (matching) outfits? I hope so.
Then this city will bring me joy, glory, and honor before all the nations of the earth! ~Jeremiah 33:9
These verses come from a larger section in Jeremiah 33 where God is announcing His promises and favor to His people. They had fallen short in their sin and in honoring Him.
So have we.
And yet...God. God acknowledges the sin (and wounds from sin) of Jerusalem and it's people, and God goes on...to promise prosperity and true peace, restoration and rebuilding...cleansing of sin and forgiveness.
And what does God ask and foretell of His people in response? Then this city will bring me joy, glory, and honor before all the nations of the earth! ~Jeremiah 33:9
Can we do that today? Can we bring God joy, glory, and honor today?
How?
You decide for you. And...I'll decide for me, but let's bring God joy, glory, and honor today.
“Nevertheless, the time will come when I will heal Jerusalem’s wounds and give it prosperity and true peace. (7) I will restore the fortunes of Judah and Israel and rebuild their towns. (8) I will cleanse them of their sins against me and forgive all their sins of rebellion. (9) Then this city will bring me joy, glory, and honor before all the nations of the earth! The people of the world will see all the good I do for my people, and they will tremble with awe at the peace and prosperity I provide for them. ~Jeremiah 33:6-9

Let's glorify our Lord today! And in a wild example of God's crazy/unconditional/agape love for us, He not only forgives our iniquities, but He goes on...
He goes on to do good for His people, so that the people of the world will see it. It's like a wild and uneven trade between children where one child gives a beat-up penny, and yet recieves an entire coin collection in return. This is the blessing and unearned trade-off that God gives His kids.
That's us.
Have we any idea the good that God has in store for those that bring Him joy, glory, and honor?
I don't think we know...
Far too often, we seek the "rewards" of this world, of the culture, of the flesh, but God has much more in store, and His blessings are deeper, richer, more beautiful than anything this world can provide...or we could expect.
We don't deserve it, but the Bible says that we can trust God for the good He will do for us and for peace and prosperity.
Will we enter in with Him today?
Can we bring God joy, glory, and honor today?
C.S. Lewis, the great Christian writer, scholar and theologian hit the nail on the head when he (eloquently) said that people often ignorantly settle for the world's "treasures" instead of seeking God for His infinite joy.
We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased. —C.S. Lewis
Let's not be too easily pleased by the counterfit trophies of our culture today. Instead, let's seek to bring God joy, glory, and honor today in whatever ways that we can, or by joining in with someone else in the effort.
Then this city will bring me joy, glory, and honor before all the nations of the earth! ~Jeremiah 33:9
