The Lord is in control today.  We can trust that to be true, just as sure as we can trust that the day will follow the night.

Did we see the sunrise this morning?

Even if we missed it...we can trust that it occurred: am I right?  The sun rises and sets every day, and in fact, the day has followed the night every day (and night) since the Lord created and started the dawn of time.

The Lord is in control of what happens to us today, just as certainly as the sun rose (again) this morning.

Even if we have doubts or fears about what might transpire today, the Bible promises us that God's got it under control because Jesus is in control.  Jesus reigns.  Jesus does what is just and right, and that includes the events and interactions of our daily lives...including today.

The Lord is in control today.

~~~
We might have heard that there was a baby born in a manger that angels told shepherds to visit and that wise men from afar were drawn to see.
But about 500 years before the shepherds and wise men knew, the prophet Jeremiah told the Israelites all about it: Good days are coming, because the Lord will be in control.  And the Lord is in control today.  We can trust that to be true.
“The day will come, says the Lord, when I will do for Israel and Judah all the good things I have promised them.
(15) “In those days and at that time I will raise up a righteous descendant from King David’s line.  He will do what is just and right throughout the land.  (16) In that day Judah will be saved, and Jerusalem will live in safety.  And this will be its name: ‘The Lord Is Our Righteousness.’   ~Jeremiah 33:14-16
Can we trust that Jeremiah was correct, and that history and Scripture prove that he was speaking of Jesus?  Yes.
Jeremiah said: "I will raise up a righteous descendant from King David’s line" (Jeremiah 33:15), and in the first Chapter of Matthew, the lineage and ancestry of Jesus is detailed-out and guess what?  Matthew proves that Jesus was a righteous descendant from King David’s line.
This is a record of the ancestors of Jesus the Messiah, a descendant of David and of Abraham: (2) Abraham was the father of Isaac.
Isaac was the father of Jacob.
Jacob was the father of Judah and his brothers...
(5) ...Obed was the father of Jesse.
(6) Jesse was the father of King David.
David was the father of Solomon (whose mother was Bathsheba, the widow of Uriah).
(7) Solomon was the father of Rehoboam...
(16) Jacob was the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary.
Mary gave birth to Jesus, who is called the Messiah.
(17) All those listed above include fourteen generations from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the Babylonian exile, and fourteen from the Babylonian exile to the Messiah.  ~Matthew 1:1-2, 5-7, 16-17
Jeremiah said that Jesus ("a righteous descendant from King David’s line" ~Jeremiah 33:15) would come to reign and rule (righteously) over us...and we can trust what God told Jeremiah to be true.  The Lord is in control today.
Jeremiah went on to say that we can trust God's Word about Jesus reigning just as certainly as we can trust that the day will follow the night.
Did the sun rise this morning?  Then the Lord is in control today.  We can trust Him for this.
For this is what the Lord says: David will have a descendant sitting on the throne of Israel forever...
(19) Then this message came to Jeremiah from the Lord: (20) “This is what the Lord says: If you can break my covenant with the day and the night so that one does not follow the other, (21) only then will my covenant with my servant David be broken. Only then will he no longer have a descendant to reign on his throne...
(22) And as the stars of the sky cannot be counted and the sand on the seashore cannot be measured, so I will multiply the descendants of my servant David and the Levites who minister before me.”
(23) The Lord gave another message to Jeremiah. He said, (24) “Have you noticed what people are saying?—‘The Lord chose Judah and Israel and then abandoned them!’ They are sneering and saying that Israel is not worthy to be counted as a nation.
(25) But this is what the Lord says: I would no more reject my people than I would change my laws that govern night and day, earth and sky.
(26) I will never abandon the descendants of Jacob or David, my servant, or change the plan that David’s descendants will rule the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Instead, I will restore them to their land and have mercy on them.”  ~Jeremiah 33:17, 19-26
There are many promises in these verses to God's people (us!), but the message that blared most loudly into my listening ears was that we can trust God to be in control today, just as certainly as we can trust the sun to rise and set.  He will not reject us or leave us to "fend for ourselves" in the situations that we face today: we can trust Him to reign over our circumstances and hearts today.
But this is what the Lord says: I would no more reject my people than I would change my laws that govern night and day, earth and sky.  ~Jeremiah 33:25
Just as certainly as we can trace the lineage of Jesus back to David, we can also trust that the sun will rise and if we will trust God today...we will be set.
