Corona Devo 1813
Because we had alternate activities to attend afterwards, my husband and I drove separately to church this week, and the roads were bad. Terrible actually.
Overnight snow had fallen, but freezing rain had created a top layer of crunchy ice, and as a result...most people were not out driving. Even though I know the road to church well, it was sometimes very hard to see my lane. I followed my husband's tracks the entire way there.
At times I could not see the center line, the edge lines, or any lines at all to help in discerning where the road was...but my husband's tracks were always there, right in front of me, and just beyond where I was. A fresh imprint showing me the way, even on a blizzardy, blustery morning.
We do not all live in locations with snowfall, but all of us fall prey to the storms of life that can cause our path to become hidden from view at times.
Health, finances, love, loss-of-love, aging, grief, fear...you name it: the circumstances of life can cover any safety guardrails and guiding lines that we thought we had.
Are we in a place like that today?
Good news. We have tracks to follow: God's. He goes in front of us today. His Word (the Bible), and His testimony in the lives of others who have followed His tracks...go before us today. His Word and His people provide a path and proof of His sovereignty and protection.
God's people (the Israelites) came to a point once where they could not see the road before them. In fact, there was no road before them. They were fleeing the Egyptians, and they had (literally) run out of land and were up against the sea.
What to do? Their situation was bad. Terrible actually.
But they followed God's tracks...right into the sea. The Lord cleared a path for them and went before them, and He went behind. They followed God's tracks, and He kept them safe.
And the Angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud went from before them and stood behind them...
(21) Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea into dry land, and the waters were divided. (22) So the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea on the dry ground, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. ~Exodus 14:19, 21-22
We (too) can follow God's tracks today, and He will keep us safe. Believe it: it's true. The Lord provides a path for us and He also directs it. But the catch is: we have to follow His tracks. We have to trust Him.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; (6) In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. ~Proverbs 3:5-6
There are situations and seasons that blindside us, and cover our comfort-zones like a heavy blanket of snow. We can't tell where we are, and our tendency is to freak-out, or worry, or worse...
At these times, and in these circumstances...and today: let's follow our Father's tracks. Follow them the entire way there.
Where is "there"?
Peace, sanity, calm, balance...we'll know it when we get there, and the only way to get there is to follow God's Word.
- For God is not a God of disorder but of peace—as in all the congregations of the Lord’s people. ~I Corinthians 14:33
- Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. ~John 14:27
When our familiar guideposts have been obscured from our (mind's) view...we must remember that we have tracks that we can follow: the Lord's. He goes before us and hems us in behind, and He is not willing that any one of us be lost.
Let's seek His Word and His ways...and His tracks today.
- I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. (5) They looked to Him and were radiant, and their faces were not ashamed. ~Psalm 34:4-5
- "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” ~Deuteronomy 31:6
God's tracks are always right there for us to follow in. His Word and His people are an ever-fresh imprint showing us the way, even when our path becomes hidden from view.
