The Lord made the earth by his power, and he preserves it by his wisdom. With his own understanding he stretched out the heavens. (16) When he speaks in the thunder, the heavens roar with rain. He causes the clouds to rise over the earth. He sends the lightning with the rain and releases the wind from his storehouses. ~Jeremiah 51:15-16
We look for the science (instead of faith) behind these verses, and we have for centuries...but who can find it? Prove it? Explain the making of the earth?
In the end, (and in faith), the only answer that truly makes sense is...not to believe in a spontaneous explosion that "happened" to create lifeforms, and species ,and seasons, and stars, and triggered "evolution".
The science that makes the most sense is that the Lord made the earth by his power, and he preserves it by his wisdom. With his own understanding he stretched out the heavens (Jeremiah 51:15).
With his own understanding he stretched out the heavens...
Not with anyone else's understanding, and...there is no one who could (understand). But with his own understanding he stretched out the heavens. And beyond that...When he speaks in the thunder, the heavens roar with rain. He causes the clouds to rise over the earth. He sends the lightning with the rain and releases the wind from his storehouses (Jeremiah 51:15-16).
Think about what's being said here. Jeremiah sums it up well and even poetically. Especially because... 2,000 years later...we still don't have the words, wisdom, or understanding to explain how God did it (made the Earth by his power) or how he manages/administrates/creates weather (thunder/rain/clouds/lightning/wind).
The explanation of earth and its systems (nature, weather, atmosphere, human/us), is all (still, with all of our research/science/study/knowledge/and advancements), is still a holy mystery to us isn't it?
And the God of Israel, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies will always be a powerful (unable to be fully known), holy mystery to us. Why? Because He is the God of Israel, and the Lord of Heaven's armies.
In comparison to Him, and as we seek to create our own idols and knowledge to explain or rationalize what He does, and who He is...we become foolish. Instead of worshiping his power and authority...we, as humans., have always deterred to somehow trying to explain-God-away, or divert-our-worship to other explanations of His Creations. And in doing so, we do not become "enlightened", instead, we become foolish.
The whole human race is foolish and has no knowledge! The craftsmen are disgraced by the idols they make, for their carefully shaped works are a fraud. These idols have no breath or power. (18) Idols are worthless; they are ridiculous lies! On the day of reckoning they will all be destroyed.
(19) But the God of Israel is no idol! He is the Creator of everything that exists, including his people, his own special possession. The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is his name! ~Jeremiah 51:17-19
Did we catch it? In these verses where God reveals (proclaims!) His power...He also reveals another undeniable attribute of Himself: His undeniable love and his tenderness for us.
But the God of Israel is no idol! He is the Creator of everything that exists, including his people, his own special possession. The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is his name! ~Jeremiah 51:19
God is powerful! He made the Earth by his power...and guess what else? He thinks that we are special. He calls us His (his people). He speaks of us with an intimacy. The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is possessive of us, and He calls us his own special possession.
It is hard to reconcile all that our God is. I don't think that we can. He made the earth by his power, he stretched out the heavens, he causes the clouds to rise over the earth, he sends the lightning with the rain and releases the wind from his storehouses (Jeremiah 51:15-16).
He is the Creator of everything that exists, including his people (Jeremiah 51:19) and he calls us (intimately...tenderly) his own special possession.
We may still wonder how He did and does all of the creating, but we can accept-in-faith and rest-in-truth that we are his own special possession. We are His today. God is possessive of us today. He guards us today. He keeps His eye upon us today.
He is the Creator of everything that exists, including his people, his own special possession. The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is his name! ~Jeremiah 51:19
