When our kids were babies and it was bedtime, I would read them stories, I would say a prayer, and then I would lay them down and sneak out of their room as they (hopefully) drifted off to sleep.

And then I remember laying in my own bed and praying for them.  That they would be okay throughout the night.  That the darkness would not be frightening to them.  That they would know that they were safe in God's arms, even when they weren't in mine.

And they were.

They slept in peace (most nights!) and so did I.

When you lie down, you will not be afraid; Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet.  ~Proverbs 3:24

We're not babies.

And most of us are not putting any babies to bed these days.

But the unrest and questions that used to float through my mind late at night...the likes of them still float sometimes.

And I know I'm not the only one.

~~~
What's on your mind today?  What worry is lurking in the dark?
Are we wondering if we will be okay today?
Has it been a long night (or season) of waiting/of pain/of disappointment/of anxiousness/of sorrow/of questions?
Is the dark (of today) frightening to us?
Shhhh.  Shhhh.  Hush now, and rest.  Rest in the Lord.  We can trust Him, and we are safe in God's arms today, no matter what we are facing.
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.  ~Hebrews 11:1
Shhhh.  Shhhh.  It's all going to be okay.  We might feel far from God, but nothing can separate us from His love, and He loves us today.
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. (38) For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, (39) neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.  ~Romans 8:37-39
Shhhh.  Shhhh.  Remember that God saved us.  He sent His Son to bring us salvationWe are saved through Christ's sacrifice and God's love for us.  Accept it today.  And then...let's live for Him today.  That means that we have to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. That means that we should live with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God.
Shhhh, rest in God's arms today, and (in doing so), we can look forward with hope to that wonderful day when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed.
Shhhh.
For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people. (12) And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God, (13) while we look forward with hope to that wonderful day when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed.  ~Titus 2:11-1
I'm not trying to "sneak out of the room" on you...
But, we've traded stories, (and it sounds like we all suffer from fear and unrest from time to time).  And let's say a prayer, and we can know and trust that God is with us when it's dark in our world or in our day.
But good news--we have a night light.  And a day light.  And an eternal light.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.  ~John 1:5
Lord, You are here.  You calm us with Your Word and Your wisdom and Your love.  May it...may YOU settle over us today like a comforting blanket.  May we rest in You and the peace that You provide to our heart.  We needn't be afraid of the darkness or anything else today.  We are safe in your arms.  Amen.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.  (5) You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.  (6) Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.  ~Psalm 23:4-6
Shhhh.  Shhhh.  Hush now, and rest.  Rest in the Lord.  We can trust Him, and we are safe in God's arms today, no matter what we are facing.
Blessings,
