Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.
(24) And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, (25) not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. ~Hebrews 10:23-25

When was the last time that we considered how we might spur someone on toward love and good deeds?
It's a great question isn't it?
Do we have an answer?
What does "spurring someone on toward love and good deeds" even mean?
...Not their gas tank (although that could be an example of this idea!), but (instead): filling someone's emotional tank. Spiritual tank. Their heart tank.
...and how we do it is up to us and up to how the Holy Spirit leads us
Because...our (emotional/spiritual/heart) tanks run dry--don't they? (Is ours on empty today?)
However...we can be refilled if someone spurs us on.
God's Word (the Bible) is asking us to consider how we might do that for someone today.
There's a right way and wrong way to spur someone on. I love to bake, and at a recent event someone I don't even know very well asked what I baked because they wanted to try that one.
That filled my tank. That spurred me on toward (more) love and good deeds!
But (also recently) at a different event, as I shared some cookies, I had someone tell me that he's been waiting for me to bake a certain flavor of cookie for years that I never bring to him.
That did not spur me on toward (more) love and good deeds.
God reminds and cautions and encourages us to consider how we MAY (NOT how we may not) spur one another on toward love and good deeds.
Write a card, stop over, take the time, make something special, invite someone somewhere, give flowers, say something nice.
It's not hard. It does not have to be expensive. No one else needs to know. But, really: God says this in His Word today and it's no coincidence that we are reading it today: let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.
Give it some thought. Give it some prayer. Consider what God would have us do...and do it.
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds... ~Hebrews 10:24
When someone is kind to us...it spurs us on toward love and good deeds.
When someone is encouraging to us...it spurs us on toward love and good deeds.
When someone is thoughtful toward us...it spurs us on toward love and good deeds.
When someone is inviting to us...it spurs us on toward love and good deeds.
How can we spur one another on toward love and good deeds today?
Let's consider it.
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds... ~Hebrews 10:24
Because really...it can make a big difference (and deposit) into someone's tank.
For example, last night as we parted company with friends, we gave them some "puppy chow" to take home (chocolate and peanut butter coated Chex cereal dusted in powdered sugar). Puppy chow is easy to make and fun to share, but when I received a video clip of their little daughter loving a nibble of it...my tank was filled! It spurred me on toward love and good deeds, and more baking!

When was the last time that we considered how we might spur someone on toward love and good deeds?
How about today?
