Corona Devo 1916

I was hanging some damp things from the dryer (I let the load dry for a few minutes, to get the wrinkles out, and then I stop it and hang the items that I don't want to shrink: like shirts or pants. That's how my mom always did it, and so that's how I do it.)  So, I was hanging a few things, while the next load of laundry swished and sloshed in the washer next to me.  The oven was on, prepping for the next meal, and my mind was already thinking of my next three tasks. So much to do!  Always so much to do!

As I made (more) mental to-do lists in my mind, the shrill twill of the teapot began whistling through our kitchen and house.  People were still sleeping, and so I ran to take the kettle off.

(My husband loves this orange and cinnamon loose-leaf tea, and so I was boiling some water to allow the next gallon to steep.)  So much to do!  Always so much to do!

As the teapot screamed my nerves did too.  I thought to myself, "Lord, don't you care that I am running ragged?  So many things to do and it feels as if there is so little time to do them.  Can't You help me?"

But we can rest assured that the Lord does want to help us today, but not by folding a load of laundry, unloading our dishwasher or mowing our lawn.  God has something much different in mind when it comes to helping us.

As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. (39) She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. (40) But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

(41) “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, (42) but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”  ~Luke 10:38-42

~~~
Slow down today.
“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered...  ~Luke 10:41
    (“Your Name, Your Name, the Lord answered...  ~Luke 10:41)
Realign priorities today.
“you are worried and upset about many things, (42) but few things are needed—or indeed only one..."  ~Luke 10:41
Spend time with Jesus today.
Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”  ~Luke 10:42
The rest will get done, I promise.  God promises us that the most important things will be accomplished when we put Him first.  Plus, (Bonus!) His peace will come.  He promises us that when we focus on Him instead of our to-do list, we will find a peace that no (momentarily) checked-off list can provide.
You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.  ~Isaiah 26:3
Slow down with Jesus today.  Sit down with Jesus today.  Settle down with Jesus today.
I have never spent (focused minutes) reading the Bible and not had His Word calm my heart, mind, and spirit.  If we will stop long enough to enter into time with God, it will never return void.
The Lord does want to help us today, but not by folding a load of laundry, unloading our dishwasher or mowing our lawn.  God has something much different in mind when it comes to helping us.
Sit with Him today to receive His help and His presence.
Blessings,
