Corona Devo 1944
Out of town for a couple days and games, my husband and I woke up early before the kids...and that was our plan. He was going running at a park and I was going with him to read the Bible and have some time with Jesus. But when we got in the car, the engine started, however the steering wheel would not turn and a bright red light on the dashboard relating to the steering wheel was blinking and blaring at us. We weren't going anywhere: the steering wheel was locked.
We had rented this car less than 24 hours earlier and now it was not drivable.
With sleeping children in the hotel room and an afternoon soccer game breathing down our necks, it was tempting to panic.
But we prayed instead.
And then my husband called the (not yet open) car rental agency and left a polite but direct message
And then we stayed in the non-drivable car and I read the next Chapter in my daily Bible reading.
As I read the passages out loud to my husband, I knew that God had hand-picked them for our today, and maybe for your today too.
That's the thing about God and His Word--He always knows just what to say.
Without a working car, with impending deadlines, being out of control of outcomes...our spirit wants to panic, our temper wants to flare, our faith wants to falter.
What will we do?
What should we do?
The Lord sees our situation today: My husband and I sitting in a non drivable car. You sitting wherever you are right now.
And the Bible speaks to our hearts today. The Lord tells us what to do:
O Israel, trust the Lord! He is your helper and your shield.
(10) O priests, descendants of Aaron, trust the Lord! He is your helper and your shield.
(11) All you who fear the Lord, trust the Lord! He is your helper and your shield.
(12) The Lord remembers us and will bless us. He will bless the people of Israel and bless the priests, the descendants of Aaron. (13) He will bless those who fear the Lord, both great and lowly. (14) May the Lord richly bless both you and your children. (15) May you be blessed by the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
(16) The heavens belong to the Lord, but he has given the earth to all humanity. (17) The dead cannot sing praises to the Lord, for they have gone into the silence of the grave. (18) But we can praise the Lord both now and forever! Praise the Lord! ~Psalm 115:9-18
Did you catch the beginning of this Psalm?
Three times...three. different. times.
Three times in a row the Psalmist tells us to trust the Lord because He is your helper and your shield.
God doesn't tell our hearts and our worries and our fears this...just once. God does not tell us to trust him...just twice. Three times God tells us to trust him because He is our helper and our shield.
Is three times enough for us today?
It was for my husband and I. I knew God was talking directly to us, and I know that He might be talking directly to you today also.
All you who fear the Lord, trust the Lord! He is your helper and your shield. ~Psalm 115:11
Does God see us sitting here in a car that won't drive in a city that is not our own?
Does God see you sitting in your current (unfinished/complicated/negative) situation?
He does.
Fear the Lord, today.
Trust the Lord today.
Does the Lord see us and remember us today?
Have we met our Heavenly Father? He absolutely sees us. He loves us. He sent His Son to wash away our sins and He not only remembers us in our current (and immediate) situations today...He tells us in His Word that He will bless us.
The Lord remembers us and will bless us. He will bless the people of Israel and bless the priests, the descendants of Aaron. (13) He will bless those who fear the Lord, both great and lowly. (14) May the Lord richly bless both you and your children. (15) May you be blessed by the Lord, who made heaven and earth. ~Psalm 115:13-15
And these words are true. God's Word is true.
After praying and reading Psalm 115 together, my husband and I left the car and went elsewhere so that we could both spend some quiet time alone with the Lord before progressing in our day.
He was blessed by a sense of peace and trust after his time, and so was I.
And then his phone rang from the car rental place.
They were so sorry for the inconvenience, were we able to drive the car back onsite so that they could swap it for a different one?
And when we started the car this time, the steering wheel alert light was not blinking on the dash and the steering wheel could move and turn for normal driving.
Not taking any chances, my husband drove straight to the rental agency and they made a seamless swap with us.
That was one crazy little scenario in our day, but there were many others, and guess what? We trusted the Lord because He is our helper and our shield for each one of them (Psalm 115:9, 10, 11).
God showed up.
He always does. And He always will.
And because I know this to be true (and evidenced again even today in my life)...I have to sing His praises while I can.
The heavens belong to the Lord, but he has given the earth to all humanity. (17) The dead cannot sing praises to the Lord, for they have gone into the silence of the grave. (18) But we can praise the Lord both now and forever! Praise the Lord! ~Psalm 115:16-18

What's out of our control today?
What situation or person or emotion is out of our control and our comfort zone today...and what will we do about it? What should we do about it?
Beloved...trust the Lord today. He is our helper and our shield today.
Blessings,
sarah
