Have you ever been in charge of a team? For work, or a project, with a volunteer group, or even within our family or home?
When we have people working under us, and with us...it is such a blessing to have people who work, but not only work...it is a gamechanger when we have people who care about their work, who work hard, and who protect their employer's interests.
When we have these people on our team...it changes everything, and it changes us. We are grateful for them, and (don't you agree:) We want to reward them.
I've managed people (and I have my own little people), and when we find those who are not only willing to work, but who are willing to work with care and concern for our cause...then look out. We want to take care of those workers.
Whether it is leave time, pay increases, reward-gifts, words-of-affirmation, or a combination of these: an employer's response to good work is (understandably) to reward that employee, right?
Have we had hard workers on our teams? They are priceless, aren't they? And our heart is often to reward them.
And...how about us?
Are we tending to our work and protecting our employer's interests?
Be honest.
And, some might say that they are self-employed, and so there is no (other) boss beyond themselves. But we all know that isn't true.
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, (24) ...It is the Lord Christ you are serving. ~Colossians 3:23-24
Are we working with all our heart with whatever we are working at?
Be honest.
And if we are doing God's work (His call on our life), then it is exciting to read what the Bible says will happen (to us).
Remember how good it makes us feel when we have people working hard under us, or with us, or for our interests?
It makes an employer happy, and in the spirit to reward such a worker.
God's Word says that God is the same.
As workers who tend a fig tree are allowed to eat the fruit, so workers who protect their employer’s interests will be rewarded. ~Proverbs 27:18
Nevermind how other's punch-the-clock for Christ. Don't worry about the fervor/energy/intention/initiative of Tom, Dick, and Harry. Are WE, as God's workers protecting His (as our employer) interests?
If yes, then it makes the Lord happy, and in the spirit to reward such a worker. Us.
Have we seen this in our lives? Rewards? I have to say, "Yes". You have to say, "Yes" too. Be honest.
Not everyday, not every time. Not without hard work. Not without trial and persecution, and strife and sweat...
But if we will tend to God's fig tree (so to speak)as we live our lives for Him...so workers who protect their employer’s interests will be rewarded (Proverbs 27:18).

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, (24) since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. ~Colossians 3:23-24

Our reward from the Lord is surely coming. He promises it.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. ~Psalm 23:6
God's reward will be received unto us in the precious (eternal) gift of eternity with our Heavenly Father. But sometimes and some days it comes in unique/personal/private rewards between Him and us. (Have we ever been blessed (rewarded) in a unique way that only God could know to provide?)
As workers who tend a fig tree are allowed to eat the fruit, so workers who protect their employer’s interests will be rewarded. ~Proverbs 27:18
Keep up the great work today.
Keep tending God's fig tree today.
Keep protecting our (Heavenly) employer's interests today.
And perhaps...we will be rewarded today, but for sure we will be rewarded tomorrow.
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. (2) My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? (3) And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. (4) You know the way to the place where I am going.” ~John 14:1-4
