Remember your leaders who taught you the word of God. Think of all the good that has come from their lives, and follow the example of their faith.  ~Hebrews 13:7

~~~
What is our earliest memory of someone teaching us the word of God?
Was it a summertime Vacation Bible School (VBS)?  Crafts, games, snacks and Bible skits?
Was it a flannel board with cloth figures and us sitting cross-legged on a carpet on a Sunday morning in a classroom with tiny chairs?
Was it through song or music?  A teacher or choir director, or our mom or a grandparent: singing songs of faith that taught us songs of faith.
Or was it a teacher/a coach/a parent/a youth leader or pastor at our church (or at a friends church)?
Who were the leaders who taught us the word of God?
Let's remember them today.  Let's think of all the good that has come from their lives.  Let's think of the effect they had on us, and let's think of the effect that they had on the Kingdom of God.
And let's follow the example of their faith
Remember your leaders who taught you the word of God. Think of all the good that has come from their lives, and follow the example of their faith.  ~Hebrews 13:7
This verse gives us direction on how to be leaders who teach the word of God.
First of all: teach it!  We should be reading the word of God, and studying it, chewing on it, applying it to our hearts and lives.  And when we do: Bingo!, we will see God working on us and in us through His Word.  And once we know the word of God, we can teach it!
Remember your leaders who taught you the word of God (Hebrews 13:7), and let's be like them, and follow the example of their faith.
Think of all the good that has come from their lives...  ~Hebrews 13:7
I love this verse, don't you?
You can have your fast cars, you can keep your flashy clothes, you can keep weighing your gold ounces, but me?  I dream about good coming from our lives.
How do we get the good?  How do we do/be/become the good?  Well--we have to go back a sentence: the leaders who teach the word of God have good coming from their lives.
Do we see the correlation?  And it is not just a correlation--it is a cause-and-effect situation: know/believe/learn enough about the Bible, and then teach the word of God...and (in effect): have good come from our lives.
I don't like math much, but I like that equation.  And oh, how we would all like for people to think of all the good that has come from our lives.  And (let's review): how do we get to that point?  Teach the word of God.
...and follow the example of their faith.  ~Hebrews 13:7
Let's remember who the leaders who taught us the word of God were?
What were they like?  What was their homelife/marriage/family-life and time like?  What spiritual practices and disciplines were important to them?
How did they live?  How did they serve?  How did they make us feel?
How did they teach us the word of God?
Let's remember them today, and let's follow the example of their faith.
Are we teaching others the word of God?  And if the answer is "No", then how can we change it to be a "Yes"?
There are churches everywhere with outreaches for every age. There are mission opportunities in every form, from soup kitchens, to pregnancy centers, to youth mentoring and building into our own family and friends.
The mission field is vast and varied: take your pick and use the gifts God has given us to speak the word of God.
Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.  ~Hebrews 13:7
