Do we need a reminder today that we are blessed?

We lost power briefly because of a storm the other night, and when I walked into the living room the next morning, my heart smiled when I saw that my husband had switched on our “blessed” sign.

I love our brightly-lit reminder that we are “blessed”, and too often our family only remembers to illuminate that sign when we are having company.  However, when I thanked my husband for the morning message, he said that he didn’t turn the "blessed" sign on.

I reckoned that God had given me the reminder of how blessed I am.

Do we need a reminder today that we are blessed?

Remember that God loves us so much that He gave His Son to be crucified to pay the price for our sins and to make-a-way for us into Eternity with Him.

  • For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  ~John 3:16
  • Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.  ~John 14:6
  • I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.  They will come in and go out, and find pasture.  ~John 10:9

Because of our Father’s love and His path to salvation for us, we are blessed today.

Do we need a reminder today that we are blessed?

The sun rose again this morning, and it will set tonight.  The moon and stars will hang in the heavens again this evening, and the ocean waves will lap and crash, and yet they will only come so far up the beach today.

God rules and reigns and determines all of nature’s rhythms and we can trust Him to rule and reign and determine our daily emotional/physical/spiritual rhythms too.

  • From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord is to be praised.  ~Psalm 113:3
  • The sun rises and the sun sets, and hurries back to where it rises.  ~Ecclesiastes 1:5
  • He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in.  ~Isaiah 40:22
  • “Who shut up the sea behind doors when it burst forth from the womb, (9) when I made the clouds its garment and wrapped it in thick darkness, (10) when I fixed limits for it and set its doors and bars in place, (11) when I said, ‘This far you may come and no farther; here is where your proud waves halt’?   ~Job 38:8-11
Because of the Lord’s authority and dominion and sovereignty over His Creation (including us), we are blessed today.

Is there breath in our lungs?

  • The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life.  ~Job 33:4
  • This is what God the Lord says—the Creator of the heavens, who stretches them out, who spreads out the earth with all that springs from it, who gives breath to its people, and life to those who walk on it:  ~Isaiah 42:5  )  Is there hope in our heart?  (May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.  ~Romans 15:13

Is there hope in our heart?

  • May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.  ~Romans 15:13
  • For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? 25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.  ~Romans 8:24-25

Is our name in the Lamb’s Book of life?

  • Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.  ~Psalm 139:16
  • Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.  ~Revelation 21:27

Because we are alive today and able to praise the Lord—let’s.

We are blessed.

Because we can see beyond the trials of today and have hope for our eternal tomorrow—we are blessed today.

Because God has invited us and welcomed us and forgiven us, WE ARE BLESSED TODAY!

Do we need a sign from God that we are blessed today?   He gives us a million different evidences, but here’s one:

Jesus replied, “But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.”  ~Luke 11:28
