A poor person who oppresses the poor is like a pounding rain that destroys the crops. (4) To reject the law is to praise the wicked; to obey the law is to fight them. (5) Evil people don’t understand justice, but those who follow the Lord understand completely. ~Proverbs 28:3-5
First of all--we're all poor when it comes to being rich in mercy in comparison with God, and these verses convict and encourage us.
Are we oppressing someone? Have we been repeatedly oppressing/critiquing/destroying someone or something that is trying to grow?
I think of my children. My smart and fun and kind kids...that I too often see as not working/doing/being enough...or falling short of my (often unrealistic) expectations.
A poor person who oppresses the poor is like a pounding rain that destroys the crops. ~Proverbs 28:3

I apply this verse to my marriage.
Wives to their husbands...
Husbands to their wives...
A poor person who oppresses the poor is like a pounding rain that destroys the crops. ~Proverbs 28:3
Are we verbally/emotionally/spiritually/physically/mentally oppressing our family/kids/spouse/employees/team mates/bosses...like a pounding rain that is destroying them (or something "good" coming from them?)
Are we destroying someone's crops? Think about that today.
God has given us this Bible verse to evaluate ourselves today. God has given us the Bible so that we might read and receive His truth and get real about how it applies to us.
Are we oppressing someone like a pounding, consistent, incessant, unrelenting rain?
Are we destroying the crops of someone?

And...we can also feel seen and encouraged in this verse if WE are the ones being pounded and destroyed. The Lord sees us and provides His Word as a comfort and strength to us today.
Whether we are convicted of oppressing and pounding someone today...or, if we feel God validate our hardship of being-pounded today...His remedy for both sides is the same: Obey His law and His Word.
To reject the law is to praise the wicked; to obey the law is to fight them. (5) Evil people don’t understand justice, but those who follow the Lord understand completely. ~Proverbs 28:4-5
We can read the Bible (God's law) and we can gain life from it. This is how we fight the "world's" law: by obeying God's law. And this is also how we steel ourselves against the crashing waves and ways of the world: to obey the law is to fight them (Proverbs 28:4)
Reject the world's ways and embrace God's law: most people won't "get" what we are doing...but God's people will, and God absolutely will.
Evil people don’t understand justice, but those who follow the Lord understand completely. ~Proverbs 28:5
~~~
How do we stop the negative cycle of cutting others down or being cut down?
The answer is the same regardless of whether we are pounding others, or if we are being pounded: Obey God's law.
...to obey the law is to fight them. ~Proverbs 28:4
Let's fight them today.
No more (giving or receiving) oppression...because we follow the Lord, and so we understand completely.
