Corona Devo 2000
The Apostle Peter wrote words (over 2,000 years ago) to encourage us today.
It's wild how God's Word (the Bible) is ancient...but relevant. Perfect and timely: for speaking truth (God's truth)--right into our today.
And I don't know about you, but I need it.
~~~
The first thing that Peter does is introduce himself and tell us a little bit about himself and what he is up to: This letter is from Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ. I am writing... ~I Peter 1:1
The second thing that Peter does is introduce us and tell a little bit about what we are up to. (Okay, so Peter is actually writing to believers-in-God back in his day, but all that he says applies to us (believers-in-God) living in this day.
It's wild how God's Word (the Bible) is ancient...but relevant.
I am writing to God’s chosen people who are living as foreigners in the provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia. ~I Peter 1:1
The wild thing is: Peter knows us. Well he might not know our first name, but he (even 2,000 years ago) knew of our first love: God. Our priority in our lives today is the same as Peter's priority in his life yesterday: serving God while we live and breathe.
Peter is not living anymore.
Are we?
(Check your pulse.) Yes?
Then allow Peter to remind us who we are today: We are God's children and God's chosen people.
I'll say it again because some of us need to hear it again. We are God's children (God the Father) and God's chosen people (God the Father knew you and chose you long ago).
I am writing to God’s chosen people... ~I Peter 1:1
We are His, but we are not home...not yet. We are foreigners here on this broken and sinful earth.
I am writing to God’s chosen people who are living as foreigners in the provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia. ~I Peter 1:1
Living as foreigners in the provinces of.... Our city might not be named, but Peter knows that our current address is not our Heavenly one (yet), and so, our hope/our joy/our purpose is foreign to the world--and to those around us. Their goals of success and power and stuff are not our goals. Our desire is Christ. And so we are foreigners in this land of self. And...Peter is writing to us (I am writing to God’s chosen people).
God the Father knew you and chose you long ago, and his Spirit has made you holy. As a result, you have obeyed him and have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ. ~I Peter 1:2
God KNEW us. God CHOSE us. We are holy and forgiven: cleansed by His Son.
It's wild and it's wonderful and it's just what we needed to hear today.
God's Word (the Bible) is ancient...but relevant.
May God give you more and more grace and peace. ~I Peter 1:2
MAY GOD GIVE YOU MORE AND MORE GRACE AND PEACE. ~I Peter 1:2
May God give you more and more grace and peace. ~I Peter 1:2
Any way you slice it: We only need one verse today and here it is.
May God give you more and more grace and peace. ~I Peter 1:2
MORE AND MORE...
Yes, Lord, bring it.
God knows our struggles and our weariness from trials and suffering and He puts His Spirit in us to save us from it.
May God give you more and more grace and peace today. He knows just what we need: more and more grace and peace.
God places His Word right here in front of us and He puts His (Holy) Spirit in us to encourage each other.
God knows us. And God uses Peter's words from over 2,000 years ago to encourage us...today.
