We can ask.
Because, really...we won't know (or receive) unless we do.
We can ask today...for God's blessing. And (even) for God's victory.
You do not have because you do not ask God. (3) When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. ~James 4:2-3
We can ask...but we've got to be asking (living!) in God's name, and for His glory--not ours. Those are God's starting points. And if we want what He wants, then (He says)...ask Him.
We often don't pray for a blessing for ourselves (for any number of reasons), but the Psalmist in Psalm 119 did.
Please guarantee a blessing for me. ~Psalm 119:122
He (most likely David) asked God to bless Him. Maybe not everyday, but on the day that he wrote this Psalm, he asked God to guarantee a blessing for him. He even said, "please".
What does this tell us?
Beloved...God reminds us today that we can pray for His blessing.
Do we have something specific in mind? That aligns with God's glory and that does not detract from Him, but instead would magnify Him?
Than ask.
~~~
But--when was the last time that we asked/sought/inquired of God? For His will in our lives? His plan over our plan?
Are we authentically seeking His plans for our lives? Yes? Then ask for what you seek today...and see.
(And give God the glory when He gives it to us.)
God's Word (and His examples of people who know Him and asked of Him and received of Him in the Bible and today)...are all evidence that we can ask, and we can ask for God's blessing.
Please guarantee a blessing for me. ~Psalm 119:122
The Bible teaches us big truths and faith foundations, and it comforts and disciplines us too. But we come to know the Bible one verse at a time, one day at a time. And today, God reminds us, His children, that we can ask for His blessing.
Lord, sustain me as you promised, that I may live! Do not let my hope be crushed.
(117) Sustain me, and I will be rescued; then I will meditate continually on your decrees.
(118) But you have rejected all who stray from your decrees. They are only fooling themselves. (119) You skim off the wicked of the earth like scum; no wonder I love to obey your laws!
(120) I tremble in fear of you; I stand in awe of your regulations. (121) Don’t leave me to the mercy of my enemies, for I have done what is just and right.
(122) Please guarantee a blessing for me. Don’t let the arrogant oppress me! ~Psalm 119:116-122
Friends, we can ask today...for God's blessing.
Blessings,
sarah
