When our children were small, we had a trampoline in our backyard.  One of those big ones, with the netting all around it, so that they could bounce without worry.  Or run.

We had such fun on that trampoline when they were young, and often it would be all of us running along the inside edge, around and around.  I would announce the children as if they were horses in a race as they ran and ran.

And inevitably we would all flop down and lie on our backs and stare up at clouds in the sky, deciding what shapes the clouds portrayed: such as a dragon, rooster, or turtle.

We made wonderful times and memories laying there and staring up at the sky.

When was the last time any of us laid on our backs looking up at the clouds to see what shapes they resemble?  It sounds trivial doesn't it?  Childish even.

But another word we could use is "carefree" or "peaceful".

When was the last time that we relaxed long-enough to enjoy a puffy white cloud?

When was the last time that we relaxed?

Here's a little secret, the Lord didn't just make puffy white clouds for moms and toddlers to enjoy.  All of God's creation is a marvel, and He made everything with purpose and for many reasons.  And one (important) purpose and reason is for us to enjoy.

...Which we can only do when we are at peace

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.  ~John 14:27

...When we get off the treadmill of life.

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God...  ~Psalm 46:10
(He doesn't say, be busy--and know that I am God.
Or: be productive/be over-scheduled/over-stimulated--and know that I am God.
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God...  ~Psalm 46:10

When we stop long enough to smell the roses...and to find shapes in the clouds...we are incorporating rest and peace and contentment into our hearts, which is one of God's intentions.  These are essential for a full life, but a life in constant motion and distraction and stress will eventually have the opposite effect on us .

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.  ~John 10:10

Let's lie on our backs (proverbially) and look up at the clouds together today.

  • “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.  ~Matthew 6:34
  • Now may the Lord of peace himself give you his peace at all times and in every situation. The Lord be with you all.  ~2 Thessalonians 3:16

God gives us peace, but we have to...we must...seek it...seek Him.

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.  ~Jeremiah 29:13

We have to be willing to stop running around at full speed.  The game of life will never stop...instead it must be us who chooses to flop-down with God and be refreshed by Him.

Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”  ~Mark 6:31

 Let's take a moment today.

Enjoy God.  Through a cloud, through a sunbeam, through a gardenia, through a purring cat or through silence with our Bible.

He's right here.  We just have to be willing to jump off the merry-go-round of life long enough to experience Him...and His peace.

Now may the Lord of peace himself give you his peace at all times and in every situation. The Lord be with you all.  ~2 Thessalonians 3:16
