Corona Devo 3021

Oooooo....we are getting close!  What treasures will be under the Christms tree this year?  What treasures are we hoping...asking for....pining for under the Christms tree?

The hype and hope of opening gifts on Christmas morn might have faded with our youth, but if we are not vigilant, we can still pine for the shiny and hope in the extravagant.

But those flashy bulbs and baubles of life will never satisfy what our spirit salivates for the most:

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.

(20) But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.

(21) For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.  ~Matthew 6:19-21

Consider today that the treasures of our lives cannot..will not be found under the Christmas tree or in our salary sum, or blinking in bright lights.  Our greatest treasure of today is Jesus Christ and the gift of life with Him (today) and the promise of eternal life with Him (tomorrow).

God has given us His treasure: Jesus, for us to receive as our treasure.

Have we?

Or are we still hoping/seeking/surfing/salivating over what moth and rust destroy?  Such as: what's under the Christmas tree, or online, or trending, or just-released.  Or what everyone else has?

Spoiler-alertNone of that will last and we can take none of it to Heaven.

What we can take to Heaven is our faith and the outpouring of our faith.  In fact, these are Biblical treasures that we store up.

  • Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. (25) Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.  ~I Corinthians 9:24-25
  • I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. (8) Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.  ~2 Timothy 4:7-9

Today can be the day that we receive the treasure of Jesus for the first time, or today can be the day that we do it all over again.

God gives us His Word to refresh us today.

Be refreshed in the Lord today, and then, let's react to His Word.  Let's store up for ourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal (Matthew 6:20).

When we realize and absorb the treasure that our Lord has given us in His Son, and the forgiveness that Jesus brings us...we can't help but be affected.  Let's start storing up!

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.  ~Matthew 6:21

I have to admit, this verse is a zinger.  I don't believe that Jesus meant it as a zinger...but the truth of it is still so convicting.

Where is our treasure?  (Because: there your heart will be also.)

How much time do we spend on/with our treasure?   (Because: there your heart will be also.)

How much money do we spend on our treasure?   (Because: there your heart will be also.)

What do we think about?  Dream about?  Plan for?   (Because: there your heart will be also.)

It's convicting, isn't it?

And the true and faithful answers will not be found wrapped up in Christmas paper under our Christmas tree.  The treasure that Jesus speaks of cannot be found there.

We can stop seeking and storing-up those treasures, and today let's focus on storing up treasures in heaven.

Our hearts are with Jesus, and so then, our treasure is too.

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.  ~Matthew 6:21

It can be a convicting verse, but it can also be a relieving verse, a comforting verse, and a promising verse.

Oooooo....we are getting close!  What treasures will be under the tree this year?

The answer is: it doesn't matter.

If our treasure is in heaven, then that's all that matters, and our heart will be also.

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. (20) But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. (21) For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."  ~Matthew 6:19-21
