At times, we may have seen some not-so-good things come out of the woodwork, such as bugs or even rodents.  In these cases, "coming out of the woodwork", wasn't a good thing.

But the other day, I had the opposite experience, and I had good things...great things, and great people come out of the woodwork.

Our school held a huge weekend event with thousands of people in attendance.  We knew it would be large, and our committee had planned, organized, and prepared in every way that we could prior to the day of the event.  We were ready, except we did not have enough volunteers.

Multiple pleas for help were requested over multiple mediums, from email to facebook and I even asked a few people point-blank in person.  But, it was surprising how little help we had.  Even the night before, we were still sparse on staffing for this big event.

But when the event day came: God filled in the gaps with His work horses.

People came out of the woodwork (in a good way!), and they worked hard to establish and maintain and pull-off a successful (and fun!) event.  Some volunteers I knew well, and some I had never met, but all of them worked so hard.  The team was not large, but those that came were work horses.

Thank You, Father for diligence in Your people.  Thank You for willing hearts, diligent hands, and committed people.   We praise You for workers that come out of the woodwork, Lord, and may we also BE that type of worker for You and Your purposes today, Father.  Amen.

Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! (7) It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, (8) yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. (9) How long will you lie there, you sluggard?  When will you get up from your sleep? (10) A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—(11) and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man. ~Proverbs 6:6-11

Some of our work horses had ties to the event, and every parent with a child in the hosting-group was supposed to volunteer, but I did the math (and I am not even any good at math), and our gaps-in-volunteer-coverage proved that many had passed-over this "requirement" in the student handbook.

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. (8) Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. (9) Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. (10) Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. ~Galatians 6:7-10

However...some people came in to serve and they stayed. And they stayed. And they worked. And then they cleaned up. For some work horses, that day began before 7:00 A.M. and ended at 1:30 A.M. the next morning.

People, volunteers, work horses...come out of the woodwork, and I praise the Lord for those people!

One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.  ~Proverbs 18:24

We tried to establish staff, but in the end it was God that brought the work horses, and we couldn't have done it without them.

May your deeds be shown to your servants, your splendor to their children. (17) May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us—yes, establish the work of our hands.  ~Psalm 90:16-17

And to the work horses who came out of the woodwork: Bravo!  Bless you!  Thank you!
You are seen and you are appreciated, and may the Lord reward and bless you for your beautiful work horse efforts!

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, (24) since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.  ~Colossians 3:23-24

~~~
Are we in the "work horse" category today?
If asked, do we serve?
If we see a need, do we make an effort to meet it?
May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us today.  Establish the work of our hands for us, today, Lord.  Yes, establish the work of our hands for You today, Father (Psalm 90:16-17).  May we be work horses for you today, Lord.  Amen.
