Have you ever witnessed (or stepped on/in) an ant hill or ant infestation?
Myriads of tiny ant-militia moving in all directions, and the sheer busy-ness of activity can be distracting, discombobulating, and overwhelming.
Even just witnessing the crowded (every direction) activity of an ant colony threatens my peace.
I didn't have ants in my pants today, but I did have ants in my mind. Myriads of tiny ant-like arrows moving in all directions and puncturing my peace.
Worries, controls, fears. Disappointments, expectations, goals.
The sheer busy-ness of these thoughts (and my lack of control over them) became distracting and discombobulating, and overwhelming.
How will we fix things today?
How should we confront him or her today?
What will happen to me/my loved ones/our enemies today?
Ideas and worries and frets...like ants, ants, ants, ants, ants: all moving in different directions..all moving in our minds: and all REmoving our peace.
And so we read the Bible to explore what advice/direction/command He has for us and for the fractioning worries and the factions of ant-tangents that are destroying our peace and stealing our joy today.
These are likely the opposite notions to what we were trending towards today...but: God speaks a dead halt into the marching-chaos and ants-of-anxiety that cover our thoughts.
How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in harmony!(2) It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard, down on the collar of his robe.(3) It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore. ~Psalm 133:1-3
Step on the ants of dissatisfaction and control today, and squash them in their tracks by harnessing the power of God's harmony today.
Stomp on any ants that are running rampant in our mind (imagination!) or that are camped-out in our spirit, and let the peace of God's harmony pour over us today. Let God's Word, and peace, and command-of-harmony-with-others run down our beard, and the collar of our robe today.
If we are able to feel and accept and engage in God's gift of unity and harmony with others and with ourselves today...it will change our today.
I wanted to correct the things I felt were out of place. I was considering confronting those in opposition to me.
I...I...I...
And God's Word breathes not "I" but "we" into our hearts today.
How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! ~Psalm 133:1 (NIV)
How wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony! ~Psalm 133:1 (NLT)
Let's let the worries and the what-if's of others and their choices, their lives, their ways...fall away.
What if we chose unity and harmony today instead of control and strife? I'll tell you what (or God's Word will): the ants of dissatisfaction and stress would retreat and diminish.
They will.
I felt it.
I read the Bible, and experienced God's unity and harmony in my spirit as I accepted His idea of choosing His unity and harmony with God's people, and as I abandoned my idea of control.
Gone went the distracting, discombobulating, and overwhelming feelings that had ransacked my mind like ants incessantly crawling up and down a hill.
In came the Lord's peace and relief over me like precious oil poured on the head and running down on the beard (Psalm 133:2).
We don't need to let the ants of anxiety, control, fear, disappointment, expectations, and goals eat us alive today.
How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity! ~Psalm 133:1
Good and pleasant...
When was the last time that we felt that?
How about today?
Let's live together in unity today.
